Maps 40 and 60 should not cover the white part of the other two. What we are doing with 40 and 60 maps is avoiding those layers to affect the other two.

So you should blend in photoshop the image of the central strip and the two bands and invert the resulting image; after that lower the white level to 153 for 60% and to 102 for 40% (60 and 40% of 255).

hmm.. i dont get it.. the only thing i did was to change pattern of the maps and created the two you did make with the same rgb values, but now my to bands are grey again :?:

When you are rendering a texture too close to the camera you normally can see its pixels; filtering tries to smooth the transition between pixels so you can't see them so clearly.
