...try resizing down the waves

Yes I agree with iker, resize the waves. At the present scale the water makes the ship look tiny...like a model. The water should also have smaller texture to break the smoothness and add scale. Perhaps a bump or displacement map could do that. The ship and sky looks good though...

They are both on the windy sea. You need large smooth waves as the foundation, covered with smaller more defined ones. So your scale isn't off per se, it just needs micro-detail on the surface.

This is one of the first images with displacement I made in Modo. http://img116.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... t01ir8.jpg Here's the map I used. http://www.filterforge.com/filters/940-bump.jpg

Btw, this map is tileable!!!

For Cinema4D there is a plugin called 'Add The Sea' from http://www.add-the-sea.de/eng/ . It forms the main waves by deforming mesh and adds the fine detail with displacement. Interaction with objects and foam maps are made by the plugin - not much use if you don't have Cinema4D but some of the tutorials may be of use.

'Plan B' use the demo RealFlow to generate the wave surface mesh/foam maps.

Hi,

Thanks for you're tips. Unfortunately I'm working with MicroStation, so I haven't got all that type of extra applications.
If I read you're and many other posts in this forum, it's very attractive to look to that kind of applications. Unfortunately I don't think I can convince my boss to buy a cinema or 3d studio license.

With the map of Calico I made the following picture:
Image

I think this is a good progress compared to the first image. Maybe the water mirrors a little to much.

Hi louis,

The image shown above is OK, or perfect i would say because you are using disp. or bumps. The finest way to tackle this kind of issue is Next Limit Realflow which is he best on the market for such fluid dynamics.

The lic is not expensive and with the gnomon realflow DVD, you can get pro result VERY FAST!

Example. swaystudio.com...check the works done with RealFlow on the U2 clip video.

Cheers and enjoy your work, its nice
