good start... what is your black level like.. on the floor...

also maybe the lighting is too equal....

maybe some fire ... (in the fireplace)

maybe some displacement for the white carpet..?

is the furniture leather? To me it has a more velvet look to it. and fireplace stone to me looks a little too flat. But over all its coming along nicely

Thanks, guys.
The furniture is a velvet material. Maybe I should change it to leather?
The rug is displaced a little (1cm). I will increase it.
The fireplace stone is displaced. I think I will add some down-lights there to make it less flat looking.
Thanks for the comments!

Haven't had much time to work on this, but here is an update:
Image

Left to do:
Add trees outside
Add items on shelves
Vary the displacement on the stones
Let it cook longer!!

Any other suggestions are welcomed.

Hi Bubbaloo,

first of all I have to say that`s really great stuff,
- I have never rendered such complex interiors myself.

However seeing both versions I would consider some things:

-the first render looks like a daylight shot; much colder color temperature,
which IMO it makes the room appear larger; I think that is better in the first image.
Also I prefer the shadows under the table and the sun reflections on the floor (front right) in the first one. They could actually be more present,
like extending further into the middle of the room.
I see a bit of a problem using daylight and artificial light at the same time
(it`s also the problem of the phtotgrapher when choosing the type of film)
If you can Multilight it give it a try, and choose later!
(guess you have to give in a single image in the end though)

-reflections on the inside of the glass were visible in the first render (looking very real!), but hardly in the second.

-lighting the fireplace would be great for a dawn setting!

-I think you have a render intensive material on the wall, it`s a bit strange that in clears up last.

-this one is a bit pedantic, but the two red pillows look a bit unnaturally deformed

everything else has improved for me in the second image, too!
I see you resized the "giant ivy" :D
And those trees looked great in the first;
Waiting to see those again!

good luck,

daniel

Thanks for the comments, Daniel!
I agree on all points!!
I am working on lighting the fireplace right now and will tweak the lights even more later.
I have since added another kind of tree for the exterior.
As for the interior sunlight and inside reflections on the glass, it all changed when I moved the sun to try to get it into the view of the window...
That is something I am still working on, too.
I will post a noisy render of the fireplace soon.

Yes, exactly!
Applied it to a curved plane in the fireplace (to get good lighting on the sides, too).

I was going to let it render overnight, but some "real work" came up that I need to render, dammit.

very cool fire... you will need to boost the MXI fire to produce a bit more light...

so far so good 8)

Cool lighting! I would make the light coming from the left whiter though; I think that would give the touch.

Could you show us how are the light cans made? They look great!

Thanks!
Nothing special:

Then put a 1"x1" emitter plane inside, facing down.

So, is this a known issue?
