Here's a scene i'm working on, well initially i started this creating this scene to be rendered with Fryrender but when i were finished with the scene Fryrender couldn't render it as it constantly crashed C4D due to lack of ram. So i said to hell with it and that's why i'm now converting this scene to Maxwell instead as i know it can render this without coughing or choking.

It should originally make use of displacement but since Maxwell has no displacement (yet) i will have to do it without it..

Some of the first wireframes..

The reference photos i shot of the real product...

More work done here on the handle + screws

And that's all for now until i started converting the Fryrender materials to Maxwell Render, i'll update here more when i got something more to show.

I've been spoiled by Nico. Where's the modeled lettering on the bottom of the pans?

I wish I could model the way you guys do. All I know is how to model in AutoCAD. If it has a curvy bend I'm screwed.

That's how I started. My first 3d anything was made in Autocad R14.

Max, why not photo/replicate that bottom and use Zsurf to create a replacement mesh?
:)

bjorn: Thanks :)

sandykoufax: Thanks, yep it's possible Tom's material works on this but i prefer to make my own materials :) no offense meant by that.

Bubbaloo: Hehe, ofcourse. All that can happen is i get banned :D nah but it's only there for visual reference so you guys see what it looks like until i got the Maxwell version properly taken care of. :)

Bubbaloo again: I been paying alot of attention to that but it's still possible i'm slightly off target if i say so :) you got one sharp eye there Bubba.

misterasset: Hehee, yea it's easy to get spoiled by Nico's uber high quality models. I know what you mean. But i'll see if i can stick a displaced logo under there or if i just slap on a bumpmap instead. It depends on how lazy i am.. :D btw, i'm pretty sure you can model better than any of us if you just push yourself. Get a good tool which is easy to work with and you're set to model like you never modeled before. :) ps.. avoid 3dsmax and crap like that.

Stu: Zsurf hmm.. what's that ?! it must be something i missed

Chris: :D i wonder why.. please tell me why, oh whyyyyy whyyy!! hehe

I'll be back soon with an update

Now i managed to whip up a first Maxwell version with very basic materials, they'll be finetuned more and then some more stuff will be added including the logo at the bottom of these objects. :) btw, this is a 25 min rendering.

More to come..

Hey Max,
Use Current State to Object to bake your displacement in C4D (it pops up under a Null Object thingie), and export as STL, DXF, OBJ. Or better yet, use the Maxwell/C4D plug to make your MXS, then assign materials and render in Studio.
Zsurf is a handy, free displacement tool for Rhino users. It makes NURBS displacements from bitmaps, which play with Rhino very nicely.
Only flats though, no projections. V4 has some promising tools for getting the displacement on the object, but I find it hit or miss and use C4D most of the time.
Nice modeling
I look forward to seeing the progress.

killian: Thanks :) but this is lightyears from your modeling quality which i think is awesome, just look at your lamp there. You got a great attention to detail and precision.

Larry: Hiya, long time no see :) and btw, thanks! aha that's how it's done, i always wondered how it's done, great tip man. Thanks so much! i'll try it out later on. Zsurf sounds interesting for nurbs objects, i have to look it up later to see if it would be useful.

Chris: Hehe, yep now when you say it i see what you mean. It's to shiny which is why it looks like teflon :) that noise is because of the texture used to bump the surface with. Sorry

There been so much drama lately about this scene on the Fry forum that i got sick and tired of listening to it all and now decided to scrap the scene altogether. I'm sorry guys but i deleted everything i done last night, i'll try producing something better which i WON'T post on the other forum but here instead to avoid problems. :(

Thanks to you all for all your comments and crits, you been most helpful and kind.

So, is this a known issue?
