Quick composite using 1.5 rendered channels. could look a lot better i'm sure, but so easy setting up now.

Flawless!

Can you show a wire, I really cannot tell if it is all rendered scene or elements composited into a photo.

This great!

Excellent composite! Well done.

In regards to the structure: If this is something you plan on building, you may want to consider a few modifications for safety sake.

Image

The circled area is a fairly large portion of unsupported plywood. Just because you have a railing on the roof, that doesn't mean that kids will stay inside it. They'll go everywhere... :D

If you extend the 2x4 s to the edge of the plywood, and increase their number from three to four, you should have sufficient support to hold up even those 40 year old kids....

Also, glass is probably not the best material to put in a play house. Kids run without looking where they are going, kids swing things, kids throw things, kids push other kids, etc..... Even plexi-glass can break and has sharp edges when it does. You may want to consider semi-opaque rigid (but flexible) plastic sheets. Something with enough flex that it will pop out of its mounting before it breaks (like when a body flies into it).

Anyway, really great composition. Keep them coming!

Great wire there, can you talk about your scene setup, it looks like you have a background that is one of the uni-floor/walls. Is this mapped to the same image as your background HDRI?

Its rather ingenious creation of scene setup. Usually I see this using camera mapping technique. Very interesting.

Good job :D
Did you use shadow channel for compositing the base?

The way that thing sits on the grass is awesome.

* I don't understand the curved studio plane in the first wire shot ..... ? ...how's that work?

Also, ...one small thing, ..... you could use some end grain texture for the joist ends.

Good stuff here. ;)

thanks for the great response!!

michaelplogue, yes, the structural aspect of the render is not quite sound. the model is more or less schematic. i think this is where the overal realism falls short. joints need to show properly, details, materials need better mapping, etc. perhaps a polished render once this is all figured out. i know me and the other big kids would have that thing demolished in a heart beat.

ivox3, the curved studio plane serves two purposes.

1. matte material applied to cast GI shadow (up)
2. shadow material applied to create shadow channel (down)
(and i guess z buff would be in/out)

on the small note, waiting for the new displacement function to be released.

tom, yes matte material + shadow channel = smooth composite.

tyrone, this should answer part of your question. actually the background HDRI i ended up not using. used the original photo instead. masked the render with alpha channel which clipped it nicely into the new image. could have screen mapped the image as alternative.

looking forward to some more composites now that maxwell can easily produce all the needed layers.

nice render and a interesting concept

So, is this a known issue?
