This is my first attempt at rendering with Maxwell and I have a long way to go to be where I would like. I have to do some cleanup on the grass and also please ignore the brown area on the grass, as I have some post-processing landscape work to do with Photoshop.

I am struggling with the siding and windows. The siding is a bump map and the glass for the windows is one of the ags presets. Fstop/shutterspeed were 5.6/500 respectively.

Not exactly stunning architecture, but I have several of these generic spec homes to turn out for you basic real estate marketing material. I would really appreciate any comments to improve the rendering. I have become obsessed with Maxwell and have given up sleep as a result.

Thanks

I would always start a render by looking at what the actual materials are supposed to look like, especially how reflective and how rough that reflection should be. For example, the garage door in this case, what's it made of, is it about the same reflectance as the rest of the building, is it plastic, wood, metal?

After checking each material with many real world references, you can start to think about how to improve the overall lighting and modeling, for example perhaps putting some real vegetation/trees in the image so they make a more varied lighting, adding tones of green, sky adds blue, and light brown from the house. Modeling wise make in this case it's better to model the roof.

I think the image is too flat... No interesting shadows, from trees. I would also try with a different position of the sun.
The stone looks very big. Maybe you need a better map for the siding.
I would also change the pavement material, find something like tiles, stones, etc... Not just a color.
1-2 plants in front of the house would be nice too.

I'm by far no expert, but I've been extremely pleased with the subtle color variations in the lighting that you get if you use an HDRI enviornment.

good improvements! only crits are the driveway, steps/porch floor, and front stone facade looks strange (tiled & thin like paper.) Very nice lighting, background, trees, and plantings. I like the fence back there, too.
Good work :)
