Then you should buy one of these!

EDIT: Newest render:

Original render:

Image

Some relatives of mine own the company that makes that product and they've hired me to turn their somewhat boring product into an animated character for advertising purposes (initially just online). I decided to firstly recreate the product as it is, before anthropomorphising it (oo I like big words :P ). This is a WIP render of it. It rendered for 2.5 hours and reached SL 14. Everything was made in Maya using mostly NURBS. The two main issues with this render that I want to change are whatever is causing the ugliness in the top half of the standing Gasfuse, and the overall composition. I'm thinking of replacing the second Gasfuse with a... semi-messy coil of hosing with the proper gold connections on the ends.

Anyway, all comments are welcome and I should be able to update this thread throughout the whole project as I asked permission and they said sure, go for it!

:o

...perfect product shot!!

the only graphical/ marketing thing is that i would keep the original logo color and outline of the 'gasfuse' brand in the text for a better corporate communication, but probably this is just a test...

please keep posting, this looks like an interesting project! do you plan to render the animation in maxwell?

Thankyou! I often worry that my artistic skills are lacking compared to my knowledge of “3D stuff” but I try my best, hehe.

Yes you're absolutely right. I had a quick go at creating the outline in Photoshop but it wasn't good enough, certainly I'll fix that later.

I would LOVE to, so I'll try to make that happen. Initially they just want something very short for the website (like maybe just an animated GIF even) but then I'll try to persuade them into doing a full TV commercial. It's just me alone on these projects but I'm confident I can do it! Apart from the sound production, hehe.

Hahaha! I'm just trying to be all old-school retro meets new-kid-on-the-block unbiased rendering... or something.

:D

Thanks.

If I saw this while flipping through a trade magazine...I wouldn't give it a second thought. And I mean that in a good way. 8)

Thanks guys!!

I'm not 100% happy with the hose but I think it's good enough. It looks more soft and flexible than it really is, but I suppose no-one will know anyway, haha.

Overall I like the model and the render is very realistic. But I agree with Markus that you should use the actual logo, not your stylized text. Corporate identity is critically important. IMHO the logo image is of equal or greater importance than the words it contains.

Yes it does look very yellow. I don't have any photos of it taken by me, but it truly is this yellow! If I hold the real thing up to the screen they are very matching in colour.

Mmm yes I agree too. Did you see my second image? Do you think the text/logo is good enough on that one?

I really like the render, but hate the text. Lose the drop shadow / embossed look and just use a nice stylish font.
