Hi everyone,

Here is a Rhino WIP, no use of studio or any post work...

It reached SL 10.9 on my 3.2 P4 in 42 hours, with a bench mark of 6. I'm pushing my pc to breaking point!

All constructive comments are welcomed :)

I'd like to thank the whole Maxwell Community for helping me with materials and lighting.

Its very nice, but why still noise after so long rendering time. Are you using sss for roller blind?

Cheers,
yadi

Very nice Mark !
Is that a mirror in the back wall making the room look bigger ?

Hi Yadi, There is noise because I have a rubbish pc!

I have used a lot of geometry to introduce irregularities, however I'm wondering if i could use normal maps to rationalise the scene. I'm not in a rush with this one and happy to let it render for a long long while...

There is no SS, just transmission as in Frances' thread

Hi Thom, no it isn't a mirror, the centre is a triangle shape, wrapping around a courtyard. There is a step up in the roof which is breaking the line of the beams.

*Sweeps up and puts kettle on, ready for more visitors :)

I've been trying to use some glare, but everytime i hit the box it tells me i have a C++ error. I haven't used multi-light... Any suggestions?

Really nice acquiese!
One question: Have you used interior lighting?

Thanks Iker,

I have an emitter in the spot light, the physical sky, a hdr simulating the reflections from the surrounding buildings and the wall behind the camera is glazed, so there is a hdr there.

I don´t know what you are going to do with that image, but personally I would switch to direct sunlight. IMHO the image currently looks like being shot on an overcast day. If this picture is intended for promotion of a design I would try to get some sun in, it might even help with noise.

What I like is the perspective that you chose and the drawings on the walls.

Hi Kreamer,

I tried with direct sunlight, the problem i had was one of contrast, the interior became very dark, which didn't show off the interior spaces well. I have increased the amount of indirect light coming in to compensate...

Thankyou for your comments :)

Did you check orientation, GMT offset and maybe ISO count of your camera ? With all these windows to the right, if they are not oriented straight north you should get decent lighting inside...

Hi,

The camera is facing almost due south...

The problem would be that direct sunlight isn't going to be a good thing for a childrens centre, i guess i need the "screens" to let in a nice amount of illumination...

I'm trying a new render, i've made the "screens" a touch yellow and i've dropped the sun position so it's september, hopefully this will give a more pleasant illumination.

Thanks for the input

Sounds like a plan. BTW, the last kiddo place I did had a very hard to grasp attitude towards direct sunlight. They wanted lots of windows but not direct sunlight. We ended up installing horizontal elements on the outside, something like schueco sunControl (to be found http://www.schueco.com.
Though we did not render our design back then.

Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing the changes.... :D

its a nice project acquiesse

Some times my Dual Opteron 275 is just sitting around doing nothing (I'm out of work :( ) ...if the scene file is not too big can do do an overnight render for you - kill some of that noise, can't guarantee timing though

Dear Faraz :)

What a great place this is, everyone is so kind...

I think my scene file would be too big, it is 15 meg zipped without textures.

i also think i have quite a bit of tweaking to get my scene better before i let it run for a final time, but thanks for the offer :) i am sorry to hear that you are out of work, i am sure it will not be for long...

any advice on my materials? they could all do with some improvement! :)

EDIT: ok Faraz i've just seen your kitchen... wow... how can you be out of work? the world is mad!

I left this running over the weekend, 60 hours to get to sl 12, its had a change of sun, some playing with the materials including a look at normal mapping and i managed to use neat image with it too...

Overall i'm much happier with it and think i'll have a play with photoshopping people and plants

As always, more comments are appreciated :) Thanks everyone.

EDIT: ok it seems way over saturated and there are jagged lines, presumably from the down sampling to get it on here... i'll fix it!

So, is this a known issue?
