Ok, the Maxwell folks may not like this thread but the pressure has to be applied to our good friends in Spain.

The following images where achieved in Maxwell in 18 hrs with an SL 19.5

The next image is 1.5 hrs in Vray.

Granted the prep time for the Vray image was considerable longer than the minimal time spent preping materials in Maxwell.

Frankly, about the vrayish... I do better with F-Prime and 1/2 the time..

look at the pillows... compare the two renders... different worlds... in this case...

The scene is totally different, how can we even compare the two? Besides the obvious render time differences the Maxwell image looks a hell of alot better.

Comparing the two sceenes is like comparing a cat with a dog. Its just not fair.

All is fair in love and war.

I dig both programs, the post is to compare rendering time vs output. Maxwell would of not performed much differnetly if the scene where set up EXACTLY like the other with regards to color and finishes.

I'd like Maxwell to be faster too, but even at that tiny resolution, the Vray version is immediately identifiable as a render. The light quality is terrible. (What are those strange caustic rings on the walls?) I have to think Vray is capable of much better. Honestly, I could do something that looks as good as that in Photoworks, which is saying something. If Maxwell looked like that, it wouldn't matter how fast it was, because I wouldn't own it.

If you replace those wood materials on the floor and furniture with something that doesn't look so weird, the Maxwell version is going to be nearly indistinguishable from a photo. The light is so much softer and more natural. That's worth some extra time to me.

I'd prefer to sleep in the Maxwell bed.

Vray is absolutely capable of doing the same. Yes with greater effort. But once you know the ropes you can do it in no time ;)

nice room renders

basically with this renderer fight, maxwell is maxwell not vray they aint the same beasts. so use what you use and be happy if not happy then use something else. its that easy. i dont use maya and i sure as hell dont compare every model i make to how easy it was than if i had used maya

without any doubt, the maxwell image is overall more convincing.

it would be very interesting to hear about the sum of setup time + rendertime for both images. probably in the end both images are at a very similiar time frame, considering the overhead of preparation work for the vray render.

what's your opinion

Once you've learned and understand Vray, the setup time is inconsequential. I'm pretty sure it didn't take 13.5 hours to tweak the Vray GI. I do see artifacts from low GI settings on the crown molding.

Clopez - lovely composition!
