Okay, here's a sample test from the project I was talking about in the Whoohoo!!! thread in the Off-Topic section.

Image

I'll be finishing it this weekend; I still need a front door, grass, stone moulding, roof tiles, smooth the tree trunk, etc...

Any C&C would be welcome before I give this over to the client (it is okay that I post it here).

Also, can anybody point me to a good spot about using HDRI or MXI lighting for the sky and reflections? Like a good tutorial? I think that'll give it the final punch it needs.

A colleague of mine and myself bang house out like this all the time.

You have the basics all sorted out with this image so I'd suggest throwing it into photoshop to put in the finishing touches. A nice sky background / grass / planting and youre good to go mate.

A couple of suggestions for you. Dont have your driveway that thick...you'll need to paint grass in. Try adding some blinds or curtains in the windows.

One thing that bugs me is the garage door is made out of the arroway wood flooring texture. The stucco is also a bit too reflective.

It's really great start/test.

My crits:

1) I agree that the garage door is a bit distracting. I would give it a solid color. Maybe something similar to the stucco texture - beigeish.

2) Give the driveway a subtle texture of some sort. The flat 'greyness' of it draws your eye down to the ground when it should focus more in the building itself.

3) some sort of roofing material would be cool... right now it looks like they just finished laying the black waterproofing layer down before they apply the tile :D

4) Put some foliage behind the building in the right hand corner to obsure the void in the background (hint of blue behind the try on the right) it will help frame up the image.

All in all, cool!
