Looking for images/ideas for 'wrapping' art-cars, heres a couple of attempte, prob not the right car, so many possibilities, hmmm?

Image

The blossom one uses the 'mirror' option for mapping, good to find a use for that at last!... not my model btw.

I am settling on this one, for now, I like how the image starts geometric then becomes fractal, so to speak. More mirrored tiling :), plan to add a big colourful Number logo to the doors and bonnet.

Found by googling "tunnel of light" japan, .. very pretty

Yes, it looks better when its solid colours, more like real paint, and ofcourse the 'go faster' alignment, well done Jeff K. + co.

At a guess, I think that pattern on the car was originally a photo of motion blurred light streaks, and then 'posterised' to get solid colours. Am I right?

Cant resist posting this, an older effort/wip/test render.

looks better with solid colours, thanks.

Oddly enough this imagemap started as a photo of a painted briefcase by another artist, who I need to google to find out who is.. One problem is it looks a bit gory, and the unfortunate association of those colours with Western right-wing.

Yes, though it wasn't an automated posterization, but rather hand traced.

Also the VW is fantastic

Thanks, I just need a good scene to put it in :)

Going back to more geometric ideas, how about a lichtenstein?, the map is crazy high res, as is the model.

Image

Whats the name of that pop-art guy?, sounds like mclane or mcloone, did a bar top once? blocks of neon colour + freehand black ink on white backgrounds.

Anudder one,...simple contours on this design/model works well;

70's concert poster ftw, flat mapped fairly randomly? I like this, but cant say why really.

Just found a strange BUG while texturing this car. I'm using spherical mapping with an offset, the mapping was rotated 0/89.7xxx/0 and the scene was repeatedly crashing mxcl at low sl's or immediately. i changed the mapping rot to 0/90/0.. no more crashing. Now I should mention that some of the objects being textured in the heirarchy have weird scaling on their axis (just a consequence of mixing models) but i haven't tested if this is part of the problem. I'm using maxwell 3.001, also the texture had rotation @ 90 in mxed.

Texture is an Eboy poster;

This model by http://grabcad.com/alexander.makogon-1 is a solid model so the rear lights are setup without any tricks. Only a pyramid repeat normal map is on the inside faces of the light glass, where the surface was smooth. In some places the rear light geo has actual geo on the rear faces and doesnt need a normal map, such a great model... ..erm, one warning if you Dl the cad file; ... I just remembered it took my workstation about 8hrs to export the lambo.wrl file !

Ofcourse the glass is a simple bsdf with roughness 0 and the chrome inside the lights is also simple bsdf with roughness 0.
