Thanks so much guys for all your comments :)

However problems have arised with this scene, unexpected one's. I been testing all day to export my models with UV's intact from Modo in every possible format and no matter what i try it fails every damn time so i have no other choice but to texture this scene within Modo and render it with it's renderer :(:(:(

Only way to do it with Maxwell is if i skip all UV's on the objects and only map them within Studio using the normal mapping features of it, but that won't do the models justice :(

Here's a few materialtest/testrenderings i did with Modo's renderer, it would look alot better with Maxwell. Guaranteed!

Max,

If you can export the models to Lightwave format (which I'm pretty sure Modo does), I can get them into an MXS file with intact UVs for you... Or at least I'm willing to try!

Tim: Good idea, but i stumbled upon another solution which works now :) thanks for the tip!

Voidmonster: Thanks for the kind offer of helping with that but now i finally found a solution to this problem so i can resume working on this scene and models again :) partly thanks to the new Maxwell plugins out.

So.. long delay i know, but alot of stuff happend since last time i fiddled with these models at all. Anyways here's another toolbox i modeled today. This baby i built in Rhino 4 beta and then exported it into C4D for UV'ing, rendering and all that jazz.

I'm sorry about the lousy noisy rendering but it's just a real quick test to get a visual of it.

Very cool, Max.
Nice modeling in Rhino.
I find the Rhino V4 Beta>C4D workflow on the way to Maxwell to work very well.
I hope all is going well.
cheers,
larry

Glyptic: Thanks! :) i had no good references for this type of toolbox so i just shot from the hip when modeling it (freestyle modeling). It worked quite well hehe

Btw, Moi3D plays a pretty important part in the conversion between nurbs data from Rhino to polygon data for C4D.

Here's a slightly tweaked model, the lower arms had to be extended a bit more to make it possible to open up this much. I hope this one's a lil bit better..

Max is this an exisisting toolbox or your design? It seems mechanically overcomplicated like an old time toolbox or something. With that many articulating hinge points on such flimsy and exposed hinge guides that thing would break after being tossed around a few times. This would also be very uncomfortable to carry with all those hard edges banging aginst the users legs. Just my first thoughts when I look at it. The modelling and rendering are nice. Just curious about the design is all. Looking forward to seeing a bunch of tools thrown in there.

Edit: This must be existing becuause I did a quick google image search and found similar toolboxes http://www.handtoolcity.co.uk/acatalog/p63t1.jpg

Eric: This is based on a toolbox my dad had when he was younger so yes the base design itself is a old one and that's why it's not very optimal and modern even tho it still exists today as you saw when you Googled. Then i took that old design, tweaked it a bit and adapted it to my needs. But as you said this one will break apart and you get to cut youself on the sharp corners and bad things like that, i completly agree with you the design and construction sucks. However in this case i'm afraid it's meant to look this way, sorry. :(

Looking good Max, ..

..but yeah, ... bend just one of those articulated slots, ...and that baby's not opening. Unless you have a tool handy to bend it back, ...but it's probably in the toolbox. :P

Grrreat work Maximus, hope you make satisfying progress. I personally had no problems exporting to OBJ using Modo and retaining the UVs for use in Studio.

Max,

Your Modo skills have greatly improved! Very nice modeling! :D

Ivox: Thanks! hehee you're right :D it can easily get bent outta shape this one, it gotta truly suck when the tools you need are on the inside of it.

Nico: Thank you! :) i'm still trying to reach your insane level of detail and precision. Maybe one day..

Adrian: :D thanks! fun choice of pic there. If you have no trouble exporting with preserved UV's then it's great, it must be the importer in the other app messing it up then, if the case is that Modo can keep the UV's intact during export. Gotta run some more tests on that and see..

Tom: Thank you! :)

abgrafx: This latest toolbox and tonight's fire extinguisher model are both nurbsmodels i built in Rhino, but i'll be convering them to polys via Moi3D for rendering via C4D with Maxwell. I ran a ton of tests and experiemts to get that working well and it's a perfect match! :) anyways, the previous models in this thread are all built with Modo 202. And ofcourse.. thanks for the kind comments :)

Here's the last model of the day, a detailed fire extinguisher i built based on a photo found in a catalog here at home. Modeling done with Rhino 4 beta, i'll provide a testrendering tomorrow night of it, sorry but there's no time right now. Need to prepare for work tomorrow :) so u guys just gotta be happy with these two screenshots meanwhile hehe

Very nice modeling Maximus ! :) Happy to see you have time to continue this project ! The toobox is looking good with this "car paint" shader, but I find the tools (on top of the page) not enough shiny/too uniformly aged!

Good modeling to you !
