I messed up the setting on my default material and it rounds the edges of everything. I think what I was liking about it can be done by setting the roughness back to 100.

It's a good color and good settings for a clay model that I am after.

Steve, the grey clay is default material as Chris mentioned. (one layer, roughness 97-100, diffuse at middle 128 rgb)

The white clay is same execpt that diffuse color is somewhere between 225-240 rgb and more than likely has a 5-10% weighted layer above it with a roughness of 5-10.

Does this help?

Yes. Thanks. It's actually very important for me to be able to generate a good "clay" since I am so bad with materials.

wonderful. glad to hear it.

you had also asked me about a roof shingle material in another post. that material is not available on the mxm gallery. the textures for that were created from online manufacturer samples and run through a program called pixplant http://pixplant.com/ (i want to say the program costs a little less than your botched render farm attempt...)

note that i optimized these as .jpg's due to the fact that the original .png's were too large to post... if you run this through the "textured" wizard located in the maxwell material panel, it should give you a good starting point. i'll leave it up to you how you decide to incorporate.

since justin had mentioned the brick texture earlier, i thought i may as well share that as well. again, optimized as .jpg's and created with pixplant from site photos that i took:

anyone who decides to use them, please feel free to let me know how well they performed. they're a tad sloppy and therefore not ideal for closeups...
