First off ... Sorry about being absent here ... a busy weekend.

Next, ... let me say that you guys are too kind. So thank you for the nice words .... All of you.

Hyltom: Yeah, .. just two hours. But I have to add that it seems that using a quality HDR added to the speed. When just using standard emitters, ..the lens stays grainy way over 2 hours. So, ..I just made adjustments via multi-light to find a speed/quality balance. I think the HDR was a Sachform.

Now, .. I agree with the plastic. I'm not happy with it for the reasons given by you and Morbid Angel. Using the wizard is just a laziness on my part.

Good work!
I got few crits:
1 - biggest thing for me is plastic. In the real thing, its quite SSS'y...And not as reflective, more of a fresnel.

2 - its hard to tell how you modeled the glass panel with the arrow indicator. In the reference the glass panel is infront of the orange arrow, and is casting a semi shadow onto the back plating. I cant tell in your model if this is the same way...if yes, its not casting any kind of shadow...maybe it should Smile.

3 - if you look at the handle its slightly bent inwards. And the glass around the front panel has a multi edging giving it an interesting refreaction along the edges.

4 - The riges around the tuner nob are quite a bit more smaller in the photo.

Good work overall !
1. Exactly ! ... I was thinking SSS too, .. but I'm not good with it ..., but it needs it. I'll happily take any pointers.

2. The glass(acrylic actually) panel is modeled correctly. The arrow indicator is directly behind it, .. and in front of the dial text. The reason there's not an obvious shadow is because the emitter that would be creating that shadow is almost off. A consequence to creating that shadow is that the lens also creates a shadow which creates a horizontal line across the dial plus it adds noise. ----- so I omitted it. Also: the indicator in real life is actually a dielectric (it's clear plastic) ..... I didn't do that either.

3. Yep ... the handle is not so good.

4. I was guessing .......

Brilliant Work! Perhaps someday I will have one tenth of your ability.
There is one thing that sticks out to my eye. The top surface of the radio and where the handle connects to that surface. In your reference photos I can see variances in the reflections on that top surface, it gets more noticeable closer to the handles. The reflections in your radio show that surface is perfectly flat. And then where the edges of the handle come into contact with the radio seem a little to perfect. In your first rendering particularly those elements tell my eye rendering.
Amazing work, and lightning fast!
Your very flattering, .. but seriously, ..there's nothing special about me. Just keep things simple, pay attention to good camera setups and lighting and spend a little extra time on materials (unlike me ..--- you'll do fine.

As far as your crit ---- All true, .. I'm guilty, ..... good eye. ;) thanks......

djflod / hyltom: yes, ... I'll send it direct and will upload it shortly.

Last update on this one:

Another standard view, ..and then I dropped the model into an older scene(old church office/rectory) for something a little off-beat.

What's our distinguished priest listening to? From the dial, it looks like KissFM.

Totally missed the update with the renders.

Kickass ivox, you have an eye for quality. The whiteish case looks the best.

This must be the first wip thread i've seen by you in ages Chris  and you modeled it quicker than anyone woulda done it and at great accuracy! very well done, your renderings are stunning with the exception of the things the other guys pointed out (plastics and those things).

About SSS for the plastic, sure it 'could' improve the look of it but i don't think it's necessary partially because Maxwell's SSS requires eons to render clean if at all.. You can get away with a well crafted plastic material without SSS instead, and throw in some fine very thin scratches and dents in it so it sppears used and aged. Some wear and tear on all surfaces will improve the realism and old feel more.

Good job!

Stuart ....... that baby is AM only. We're talking oldies or talk radio.

Max, Adrian and martgreg - thanks thanks. :) ...and good points Max, although I think I might try that polyethylene by Tom(MXM site) -- but change the color.

More chance to hear the voice of god through the radio...but please someone tell her that AM wave are still too short.

Why the red plastic is so different...have you made some color correction with PS?

And Chris, I have manage to use another material from the mxm library for the anisotropy effect so no need yours this time. But it will be very useful if you could upload it in the mxm website.

Hervé ..... not Bernadette. ...try again. lol..

Sandy, Stinkie, Mihai .... Appreciate that. ...thanks. :)

djflod: ..today sometime. ;)

Hugo .... the plastic is the same, ..it could be that I used a different HDR and the scene render I did desaturate (for effect) in PS.
