So, do you find my last posted images so ugly? I think it works better than before.
Mate I found I could turn the environment, lights or pool bottom emitter up or down as much as I wanted using multilight. Gave me complete control easily I just left some environment in the scene to give some reflection off the water.

In your final night scene interior or exterior lights from the dwelling I'm sure will provide enough for reflection off the surface. Mind you in any night scene you will never have no light!!!

The method I trialled as suggested allowed me unlimited control of the effect - though I only saved one image to prove it works! I'll run it again and save you one for your info! Actually I'm going to modify my original materials so that using Multilight I can use the MXM at either day or night without changing the material.

Here is the test just run for 2 min!

As you can see you have full control of the water illumination from off to retinear damage!

OK, I can see the image now.... But I must say that the water seems completely transparent, and the lights clearly appear. What should happen is that the mass of the water becomes bright... This is the difficult and I guess this happens because there is no water mass, just a simple plane.
This is exactly what I see in F.Tella's "cheap solution"
