Working on texturing the compass disk, and learning how to do it

I actually made this texture directly in Rhino using Rhino Render.
To be able to project the numbers correctly on to the disk I used a little trick, placed the numbers as curves on the side of the disk in the correct angle and then cuted it out of the side of the disk.
After that I used these curves and extruded them strait upwards and cuted the numbers out of a plane.
I used this plane to render it, material was black and the background of the render I set as white.
After that I used a planer projector and projected the numbers on the disk again, as you can see it works pretty well, now I need to make the final texture and tweak a good material for it.
