Great images KurtS!

I am glad this topic draws some interest to itself!!

Cheers!

Thanks Boris.

Here is a new test. Scene is 100% illuminated by "Boris-Lamps" (100% reflected, caustic light)
Might not look to convincing, but in a more realistic scene with a combination with other light sources, I think this kind of lamps could "do the trick" for creating the right mood.

Cool! Although less remarkable patterns would be better :P

Its very easy to control the visibility of the caustics pattern. This test-rendering shows 4 identical "boris-lamps":
same reflector, same emitter.
The only difference is the roughness of the reflector material:
spot 1: roughness 0
spot 2: roughness 5
spot 3: roughness 10
spot 4: roughness 15

Now that is so kool :D

similar thing happens with my led material--higher roughness=more diffuse caustics.

cool thread--anyone try actual lamps yet? the caustics that I've seen so far are way too defined for the type of fixture you all seem to be modeling

Yup, very cool stuff 8)

I figured out that roughness about 6-7 is the best to use in the reflector, if smooth caustic pattern is needed. You still get the pattern visible, but very smooth already.

Can anyone shed any information about the image on the third page of this post. The one with the colored lights against the concrete wall. My question is this (Whats causing the colored light? Is it a Colored emitter or colored glass lens?) Also are those models available?

glass lenses are a clear 'NO' in Maxwell.
I recommend not only to look on the pictures, read the posts!

So, is this a known issue?
