Sorry to hear about your (possible) loss of this great looking model Magnus .. it happened to me once also (many years ago) and since that time I have been doing backups on a (mostly) regular basis. What used to bug med with backups (to tapes, CD's or DVD's) has always been that it takes so long time to do .. so what I do now is having an extra external harddisk attached, and then make backups to that drive, which is much faster.

Sorry, I know this does not help in recovering your loss right now, this is just meant as a suggestion for the future, that have helped me a few times now already in similar situations.

Thanks guys, i managed to recover approx 60% of what i had on the hdd. Most of my photos (unfortunately not all) and about half my work related files and some other junk got lost in the crash :( oh well.. what's gone is gone.

Lars: What i got is a this scene at a very early stage, basically just the watertap on a wall and i did so much after that i'll just scrap the scene and model something better later on. it's not the end of the world. But i will try to make some money so i can afford to buy dvdr's to backup things on.

Thanks again

Good to hear you recovered a lot of files, my windows HD seems to by losing files at random, probably faulty indexes or so, definitely no virus. I've had it for like 5 years or so, i guess it's time to get myself a new one aswell.

Because i still had warranty covering the drive, it was only a few months old a buddy of mine who runs a repairshop in town took it in and ran recovery programs on it (i don't know which programs he ran) during two days to retrieve as much data as possible. Once that was done they sent back the drive to the manufacturer and i got a replacement drive. All in all even tho files were lost i'm still pleased. It could be far worse.

OH ok.. next time try spinrite... It does an amazing job recovering files... It tries to read bad sectors from jumping the HD's head from different positions until it can read the bad sector.

A second alternative is to wrap your HD in a plastic bag and put it on the freezer for a few hours.. it does miracles recovering bad sectors...

Just keep the options open :o)
