Burnum: Thank you. The cloud image was converted into a Maxwell .mxi file and simply used as a screen mapped background. The Maxwell sun light temperature will need adjusting for the final render though. Usually I will also render a 360 panaramic image too for reflection and refraction purposes. This time I don't think I will need to do that - the eagle is above cloud level so every thing above is blue! The Maxwell physical sky should be ok.

The second render of the Eagle model will be similar to this rough preview. A panoramic render of the environment will be rendered for use in Maxwell Renders reflection and refraction sky channels. The background will rendered seperately and used as a background image by Maxwell Render.

Before then, there is still some painting to the underside of the command module required. The cargo pod will also have some more paintwork done to it. I think at this stage the addition of some localised 'grime' may benefit the model.

A small version of the final 3rd render. In this render the side boosters include a danger sign - this was not featured in the original. The danger sign was scanned from an old Gemin model kit - I think making 3d decals for scale 3d models, that originally used decals, works nicer than computer vector fonts.

The background sky for the 4th Eagle render.

I used an Outer Rim vue atmosphere by Renderosity vendor didi_mc to create a 3000*1500 image for use in Maxwell's Relection, Refraction and lighting channels. This is a fairly close match to my background image for the 4th Eagle render.

NicoR44: Thank you.

It took over a day to render those couple of Vue skies. Was it worth it? Probably was now I can see how the Eagle looks in the 4th Render. This is a small preview of the colour render at sample level 17. I'm rendering this image at 2160*1350 and will stop the render at sample level 20.

Burnum: Thank you. The original 'jet' effects were done with tiny jets of freon gas (before the green age!) and looked more effective when blowing ground dust - most of the Space 1999 episodes I've watched do not include in flight 'jet' effects so I don't wish to deviate away from that too much. I will probably add a subtle amount of smoke and heat haze using Particle Illusion (PI). That could have been done with Maxwell but PI does a nice job too.

Here's some tiny previews of renders being used for the 4th Eagle image. Colour, depth and alpha done with Maxwell render and a mist image done with paint software. The colour image has some light scattering and a small amout of glare applied. All images have a full size of 2160*1350

So, is this a known issue?
