Time for another minor update, now i put some time into the thin fishnet like thingy covering the front of the speaker and i also tweaked the materials more to get them to behave better and more realistic, or as close to the real thing as possible.

Here's the result, and i know it's difficult to view the thin tiny transparencymapped cloth on the speaker but it's there, trust me. :) ..you may have to click the thumbnail to view it fullsize [60 min rendering].

Wow, nice update.

We have to click and click again to view big image.

And IMHO if you add a reflection layer, it would be more nice.

like this.

Thank you :)

I'm sorry about all that doubleclicking stuff but ImageShack seems to be horribly slow nowadays so i'm looking for better hosting.

About that reflection layer you mention. If you're refeering to the center of the speakercone then yes it has a slight reflectivity to it's material, maybe it got too little i shall look into thia and correct it.

Ok now i rendered, or tried to render a fullres 1600x1200 pic of this scene but unfortunately the rendering crashed after only 2 hours and 45 minutes :( sorry, i know this rendering sucks as the setup is horrible and the rendering is noisy and it's materials are poor but i post it anyways. I seriously doubt i'll be wasting more time on this model.

Click on the thumbnail, then on the new page you get to click on the image to view it fullres there.

Dam man cant believe I missed this! Great materials Max as usual!! :) I'm curious to know more bout the mesh of the speakers soon I'll be modeling the Logitech x-530 speakers. Any tips on that mesh? Hopefully mine will have a great finish like yours!

Tea_Bag: Thank you! :) you must been digging deep as this is a pretty old thread by now hehe. You're wondering about the meshed cloth on the speakers ? i might still have that material archived somewhere, if you want i can dig it up for you.

I had a look at the X-530 model you're gonna build and it looks just about the same as mine, but it has a subwoofer. Are you planning om modeling that one too or just the smaller desktop speakers ? what program will you model yours with ? a tip would be that you try Moi3D if you know how to model with nurbs, if not the any subdiv modeler should do the job nicely as the shape itself isn't that complex except for the text on the underside of the speakerstand.

I'm pretty sure you can do a even better job than i did on this one :) and now when you got Maxwell 1.6 with displacement and all that jazz you can definately create a much better one. If you need any help or further tips then let me know and i'll try to help you as much as possible.

Thanks def4d :) i'm glad you like it.

Hey Max! Swift reply hehe! If your able to dig that up Max that would be great! Yip they are almost identical the only difference that I can see is that the sides, top and bottom on mine is tapered. Unfortunately I dont know how to model with nurbs :( Ill be using Solidworks 2007 to try and model the speakers. I'm modeling the desktop speakers and maybe the sub woofer but not sure yet. What I'm trying to do is start modeling everything on and around my computer desk to create an indoor scene which will be my first! Yes Thanks to 1.6 and Displacement its should speed things up! hehe!

Thanks for the offer of extra help Max I'll definatly keep that in mind and if I get stuck you'll be the first to know

:D anytime, if i can help i'll be glad to do it. Oh you're building it with SolidWorks. Good choice! it's a great piece of software and with that you can make a truly accurate model as it works with solids and surfaces. If you master it which i'm sure you do then building this won't be a nightmare for you hehe

It sounds like you're aiming for a big complex interior scene when you're gonna build up everything around you, please do start a wip so we all can see your progress. :)

At the moment i have no clue where i got the material but i'll do what i can to find it, if not then i can recreate it for you if you want.

Now start your wip thread plz. :D

No problem Tea-Bag :) i'm just glad to help you out when i see you're gonna build pretty much the same speaker as i once built. Unfortunately i couldn't find the mxm files for the speaker material cover and cloth but they might be hidden away on some backup dvd somewhere heh.. anyhow i don't really think it matters that much, it's better if you redo them both from scratch, that way you learn more.

Btw, i know you won't let me down on this project. :]

Max .. that's bad as$ ..

Also, thanks for the materials to put them to use. I'm actually not intending
to use it on anything. My question would be.. How are those Four items
used within your material? the alpha, diffuse, bump, and normal ..

I'm VERY new to materials, I can guess where the bump and diffuse go, but
how about the others?

see here: ;)

I too missed these nicely modelled and detailed speakers during an enforced abscence.

So, is this a known issue?
