Thanks again, mate.

I'll be posting more in the next few days, but in the meantime just to keep the thread moving, here's a link to an anim test of the front doors (no mat's yet, but I'm going to re-render in Maxwell, pretty much just for the fun of it :D )

Hey Guys,

This has gone through so many iterations now I have NO idea whats going on :D Either way, here are 2 images showing the latest version. The textures are still being sorted, and the ceiling is completely changing.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to light the space in order to reduce noise as much as possible. These images show a 50/50 between physical sky, and the floor/ceiling lights. I did a quick test with just the lights, and it was very difficult to see everything whilst avoiding making it look really really blown out. It's going to be animated so I'm in two minds over whether or not to use the flash trick. Any ideas?

Crits/suggestions always welcome/needed :)

Cheers,
Dr Merman

That water is perfect! Lovely!

How was it done?

hey there !

i'd use invisible emitters, especially a large one right above the water level showing upwards. it does not have to be really illuminating rather than bringing direct light to all surfaces, so they clean up much faster.

it seems there's nearly all indirect light, so i'd add the direct light. (the alltime problem of interior-vs-exterior renderings)

try that. a sample of the invisible emitter is available on the .mxm board

by the way, that's called «faking» - i hate it, but it's still usable sometimes ... :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of Architects.

Its like showing up to gym class on the first day and having to take a physical strength test. If you go out on the first day and use all your strength and might, you'll really impress your gym teacher. At then end of the course, when given another physical examination test and you use all your effort and might, chances are your gym teacher is not going to be as impressed with your improvement.

in other words, the root of your frustration may come from not pacing yourself correctly. The architect's pace and the artist's pace are two seperate entities.

best of luck on the project.

I don't think that this space has sufficient lighting - based on the size/quantity of can and floor/pool lights I can see. If this were ever to have any evening or night-time use, it would be very dark over the water (unless there are buttloads of lights in the pool itself).

I would lose the false ceiling so the beams were exposed, and line up some lights on the insides of the beams - pointing upwards. This would give you a nice soft/diffuse light over the pool area.

As far as the flash technique: I personally do not like those images that use it. Looks like a cheap disposable cardboard camera was used. It just doesn't look professional. This would be even worse animated - it would end up looking like the Blair Witch Project........

So, is this a known issue?
