Last time I was using rhino with maxwell which was almost about 6 months ago the application of textures was not good in there either. Has this changed somehow. I thought Rhino 3.0 has no way of mapping so that you can see them in the viewport? I was at one point taking my models from solidworks to rhino, but once studio came along I just go there with my solidworks models for texturing. The only thing I dont like about rhino is that there is no feature tree. This does not lend itself to changing models quickly at all compared to SW. This is understandable given the low price of Rhino. It is fun to model in as a hobby for sure or doing strictly concept work. I would say try it out Pierre, but I think you will go right back to solidworks/studio workflow.

Hi Eric,

I do agree with you that the work flow of Solid Works is on a much higher level than the work flow of Rhino, But I think it's a bit negative to say that Rhino can't be used professionally, I'm using Rhino as a "professional" for many years now, I know the feature tree is a fantastic feature, but lacking that in Rhino forces me to make as less mistakes as possible, for all my work ( like my cockpit and all my other stuff ) I do all my texture work from with in Rhino.

Btw, I also agree with you that Pierre should first use the SW/M-Studio approach, and if that doesn't work satisfactory the Rhino way is a good option.

Of course this is just my humble opinion

Thanks NicoR44 and Eric for your replies.
I'm using SW/MR studio workflow but I don't find Studio very easy to use for texture mapping but maybe I do not use it properly.
I think I'll give a try to Rhino to see if I have a better feeling with it.

Very nice Pierre. Its always nice to see your WIPS.
By the way if you play with Rhino, look at Incremental Save. Its used to save a model in progress and helps if something needs to be edited.
Not a parametric tree by any means, but its all we have in Rhino.

Thanks glypticmax,
I did not try Rhino yet but I will use it only if it is more efficient than SW->Maxwell Studio workflow.
I'm rendering the same scene from different angles. I'll post them when they'll be ready.

I'll reduce the intensity of the light a bit, the Nd for chromed parts I think should be lower (they will become a bit darker), I would change the texture for the marble and maybe set a texture for its roughness so it's not uniformly shiny. The wood at the side of the pool... less saturated.

That tissue box is great and the scene has a lot of details. Very promising!
