Sorry mate I've been so busy the last few weeks.

I've done all sorts of tests and have finalised my clay material during the odd hour I have been able to spend.

I've half finished my studio so will complete it and if all goes well, upload screens etc today.

Alright, Tim! Thanks for taking the plunge. Lookin' clayish!

I like the experiment with the sun & sky.

Yep, I would love to get at least a small collection of entries and experiments!

Go for it, Maximus!

Keep it simple I say  I think physical sky works great for any Clay Render ;) 8)

Indeed NikoR, I think that's why this challenge didn't drive much attention... Physical sky and a ground plane already makes a great clay render... NO materials needed..

Since the clay render is a test render. If you don't need to do anything and it already works. The problem never existed.

And the simplest it gets the faster the render is so adding more to the "clay" render will simply add more unecessary dellays... Since this is suposed to be a test render.. adding materials and background to a test render makes no sense.

Even tho i know that my type of clayrenderings aren't what was requested in this challenge i shall post them anyways as examples and ideas of what can be done with a minimum amount of creativity given to the object, setup and materials, but these are NOT submissions to the challenge. These are simply my testresults to obtain a good and somewhat realistic clay'ish look and feel using my own custommade object.

Yes I think what Max is doing is closer to what a 'cool clay render challenge' should be about.............these look superb already. 8)

Mark: Thanks, i'm glad you liked them :) but in your previous post you weren't that optimistic about this type of approach to clayrenders. First one is the classical flashphoto effect as you can see. The second one below shows much more definition and detail of the mesh and it only uses the clay shader with simple skydome.

Glebe: Thanks :) i'm pleased to hear you too like my little experiment. I'm working on refining the model itself further and also the shader and setup. I'll be posting further updates as soon as i got anything worth showing.

Thanks!

Well,

Then we have to define a "Clay" render.. for a test render... sun light and a flat ground plane is fine and works fine..

But for a render that is made of Clay.. hey that's another story.. :o)

Your renders are A+

Hey everyone,

Congratulations to Tim Ellis -- I'm awarding him the $100 iTunes prize! I am also declaring a $15 honorable mention for Nico who inspires us with so much great work. Thank you, gentlemen!

The challenge didn't inspire the prolific creativity I was imagining and it was my fault for not putting in the time to get the juices going! There wasn't a problem to solve, but an artistic expression to explore...

I'll try harder next time! But school is starting up and I'll be in the thick of inspiring students and looking at the great work they create. So, thanks everyone for considering this and congrats to Tim for both his enthusiasm and first posts!
