Thanks Tom, yep only refinements of the maps are what's left to do and it takes time. But i will get it sorted one way or another. :)

These two tests have new adjusted subdermal maps and it shows the slightly reddish glow underneath the skin of his face. But i got some weirdness on his ears which i will have to get rid of, it looks bad now. The rest of his face looks atleast to me pretty normal and realistic.

sorry a bit offtopic but..
would be scary as a **** if one of those images Maximus has made, would be a .gif and the guy would open his eyes and look to the camera. and then close his eyes.
anyways, nice work. I think it is the best skin I´ve seen so far.

Fernando, yep it's pretty good but it's a bit too evenly distributed across the whole face and you will not see that in many humans. It needs to be more naturally scattered across his whole head to look and feel realistic which is what i'm working on.

naikku, hehe i agree it would be very creepy if it were animated like you described. :) thanks, i'm glad you like it but stay tuned for the best to come when i'm getting closer to finalize it.

How about a behind-the-scenes rendering. I have adapted a human skull mesh with neck to match the human head model, Why ? because i felt like taking it to the next level. :)

I don't think i can push it much further than this into a realistic skinshader with Maxwell. Now the distribution is as uneven across the skin as i wanted it to be which is realistic, it's not too red as it was before but just enough to get the sense of real living human skin on this character. I have pulled down the specularity a bit but still kept it's oilyness there in the highlights. At the moment this is probably as close as it gets. Hope you like it! :)

Thanks hatts, yes i could try and keep pushing it further and futher. But i just reached a point where it's sort of finalized. It has reached the goal i started out with and that's to make a realistic humanskin material. As far as i can see, this is it with Maxwell. Now i need a new challenge, a more challenging one. :)

some good progress ut initial image still best.. the new ones have a very weird greyness around nose in eyes outside of ears and around neck edges.. alos like your using r2 settings and have the 90degree color pure grey at 100%.. looks odd.

about the initial model and the maps.. is this something you took/made.. or purchased from a laser scan model bank?

I really dug the skull inside the skin test.. you just need to extend the jaw down more unless it was the refraction that made it look too short.
really good experimenting!

In the latest images he looks like sunburned. Try to even out the reddishness and pump the speculars slightly up again.
Also, try to add more detail to the sknin (micro bumps) and implement a vein layer.

Stephan
