on my Eizo monitor the dark places show something from the railing, while my noname monitor shows a pure black area. Both are calibrated now with an ICC-profile.
Not sure which one i can trust, but i think the eizo should be nearer to the truth.
Are you working on a Mac? As far as i know Macs use a gamma of 1,8 while PC`s use a gamma or 2,2.
Could that be a reason that some people just see pure black areas while others think it is o.k?
I don`t know if there is some compensation mechanism for that?

I'm now looking at the picture from my Macbook pro (LED) and it's looks a lot darker! At home I have an Iiyama monitor and it shows perfect on
there. So a lot of difference!

There's been a discussion about this recently: http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... =7&t=34055

Thanks for the link Joep,

that seems to be a huge problem not only for me.
Something like that can easily ruin an image.
I am not sure how to react to that or how a pro works around that.

Maybe i have to make my images brighter than i want them to be, so that the Mac people can see them as they were meant to be.

Think about that:
You`re a pro and your firm goes bankrupt because you work on a PC and most of the juries work on Macs and they always reject your work.

I've been excited about this image since it was originally posted! I was working in the video game industry for about five years until I switched industries last year. It reminds me of something from a game, conceptwise. It's gorgeous! And great to see some work with maxwell which isn't a technical render, such as product, auto or architecture. If it doesn't go completely against your intent for this image I would add interior light..chandelier or sconces or something. If you happen to be familiar with the Resident: Evil remake formthe Gamecube, you could get some AMAZING reference from that game. It is in an old mansion and uses pre-rendered still shots for the backgrounds. They are beautifully rendered and beautifully lit. If you aren't familiar, I will post some images for you. PM me and let me know, as I don't check this area of the forum as much as I used to. Great job so far!!!

Thanks Justin,

i have found some images from this old mansion from Resident Evil on IGN. They`re really looking great. Maybe i can add something of that mood to my image.
I will give it a try with some interior lightning and some shadows falling down from the topside.
Do you or anyone else know of a good source for clipmaps that simply are placed in front of a lightning source to cast shadows of a building structure or glass window front or something like that?
By the way, you have some really nice game content on your side.
I love your detailing and texturework.
Something like this done in maxwell is what i aim for.

cheers
Dirk

So, is this a known issue?
