While the above renders were being done I made a start on a Lab' pod for use later in the year. Using my existing Eagle spine, cages and side pods to help with getting the lab' pods proportions as close as possible. The small part is a 3d version of Gemini kit part made earlier - additional kit parts used on the lab' pod made in 3d to the same overall dimensions will further assist in the lab' pods 3d construction.

It's likely the original 'Lab' pod used a base from a Cargo pod. I've already made one of those so that's what I will using as a starting point. Seen here with many of the cargo pods' unwanted poygons deleted.

What's left is being used to check dimensions and positioning. The pods' connected tube framework looks accurate when the overlaid on the reference photos' I'm using.

However the base side rails wil need to be redone to improve their profile shape. So those parts will be the next bits to form and from there the remainder of the Lab pod looks straightforward enough to complete.

Lab pod continues with the lower side rails more or less how I want them. The roof gets started too. All made from a selection of extruded splines and a few planes, left unconnected for the time being until all the overall shape of the lab pod has been formed.

Roof edges start to get detailed. Lab pod is more or less ready to have the large side parts made and added. The ends of the pod will be filled when the overall shape looks ok.

Reshaped cubes form the basic shape of the large side parts. The 'doors' at the ends of those parts were copied from the passenger pod and look a very close fit when overlaid over photos'.

The first 58 panels get added to the lab' pod. Still quite a few to go! The doorway area has been narrowed to take into account the yet to be done thruster area extrusion. The Gemini parts are taken from my revised 3d Shadow Mobile.

A few 'reference' renders, destined for a website, with the spine, cages and side pods hiddens from view in order for walkway and shelf part detail to be seen.
