Here's a Captain Morgan bottle I'm working on....i think i'd say it's about 90% done at this point but am kinda stuck trying to figure out what to do to get it that extra 10 percent and call it completely final. Input would be appreciated!

(just as a note, the swords in the glass are pasted from a real photo....it will be rendred in displacment at some point) one of the big problems I haveis that the label feels a bit photshoppy to me, but I can't figure out why.

The label is a new label design for Captain Morgan Long Island Iced Tea and was created by my roommate...I'm doing the render for her design portfolio, but it works for my packaging render portfolio as well..so, win win :)

Pretty close to perfect, I'd say. The reason the label looks "photoshoppy" I think is because it has no crinkles/creases/imperfections, which is ok, even required, for a product shot. I did notice some black edges at the bottom and top of the label's edge. It makes the label look strange. White instead of black?

I agree. The black edges top and bottom make it float a bit. It looks pretty photographic though, it just looks like a retouched shot, or maybe like a colour-correct label was made and shot. You might want to put a bit more specularity into the label metallics to give it a bit more pop and slightly less 'perfect' glossy highlights, but to me it looks pretty damn good.

(I'd just add some glints in Photoshop though, don't think re-rendering would be needed.)

Nice job.

I agree with the above, the lable is just too shiney,
Perhaps you should increase the rougness a little bit and do what Brett suggested about the metallic look.
An other idea would be to use some textures in the spec layer to give the soft reflections some kind of a break up,
making the surface a little less straight.

I've rendered these kind of bottle/product reliefs with displacement before and I can only advise you to model it instead.
It gives very poor results, render times drop incredibly esp with dielectrics...

One more tiny thing I just noticed, on the sides of the cap there seems to be some kind of moire effect kicking in.

Great shot so far though, looks very nice!!

Ditto the other comments on the label.........

I think you should be a bit more 'creative' with the camera, the close crop doesn't do the image any favours.
Think: 'how would this play in a glossy mag', or during a tv advert break.

That said, I'd be very happy with this in my own portfolio....nice job. 8)

Agree...nice work. Does the label have some metallic in it?...the label looks diffuse and it contrasts with the more specular bottle...maybe that's the way it should look?

So, is this a known issue?
