Hi rusteberg,

I did not intend to confuse so here are explanations.

Three items that are irksome:
/ the verticals.

The converging verticals distract from your terrific work, IMHO. In this case, there aren't any better options.

/ the optical distortion of objects at the sides of the image, the bollard to the left (normal but still visually bothersome).

Similar to the verticals comment and again, I do not believe this can be avoided. Wide angle lenses amplify the matter but the camera orientation and closeness to the building can only happen using a WA lens.

/ the design of and reflections on the horizontals (muntins?, railings?) in the two street level windows to the right.

Your attention to detail helps make the success of these images. Those window "T" framing members are strong and clunky and have a reflection at the right end of the "T" bar that makes the bar look rounded. The reflection does not make visual sense, IMHO. It looks like an inelegant mistake in an elegant setting but not necessarily your mistake.

The point of my comments is that these are distractions to a nearly perfect rendering. IMHO. I hope that clarifies my comments.

nice images rusteberg !

the t-profile looks like a phong (smoothing) problem to me.

about the verticals. have you tried to use a shift lense and try to keep the verticals straight ? in arch photography almost always a shift lense is used.

i also would loose the three additional lights of the porch, or at least make them planar.

thanks for the comments tea bag, leonard.

michael, i am familiar with shift lens on cameras, but how does it work in 3d? using max with maxwell plugin to setup and render scenes. Is there a setting somewhere that i've been disregarding?

In the Max plugin there is a shift lens x and y parameter, though it's a guessing game at this point because there is no visual feedback. Best to go into Studio, figure out your shift lens settings, then transfer those settings to the Max plugin.

rusteberg,

yes there is a shift lense value in the camera options (studio) this is for horizontal and vertical shifts.
first you setup your camera to get straight verticals and then use the shift lense option to move the field of view as desired.
