Here's a rendering I started working on. I let it run overnight on some machines here at the office, wasn't happy, so I let two more machines work on it for another night. Final sampling level of all the merged MXIs was 17.05.

I see things that I need to change (take the ripple pattern off the chandalier glass so it'll clean up faster) and so forth but I think it's looking good. Add some clutter and it'll look almost there I think. C&C is welcome.

By the way, I love multilight.

Looks good. I thought multi-light does not work with co-op mode. I tried it, and it said invalid file type or something when I tried to send the file to the servers for co-op rendering. Do you merge them manually to make this work with ML?

I haven't tried ML with network yet. I was having problems when I was trying to make them work together (although in other threads they say it is working just fine) so I started it on each machine with a different seed and told it to save to a network location with a file name that had its seed number in it.

I also learned that if you do it that way, you have to use the MXI that was saved to the network by MXCL on its own. If you try to use an MXI that you told it to save by clicking File -> Save MXI it won't merge.

Hope that answers your questions, thanks for the positive comments.

I've been using -ml with coop with v1.1 with no trouble. This is the first I heard it's not supposed to be working - strange.

I load my mxs in mxcl - specify a network location for the mxi and image output (the little ml switch under the mxi location is checked since I usually have it set in render parameters in studio)

Then I add the job normally under the network tab and make sure that -ml shows up in the command options.

It's worked everytime - the only inconsistency is that sometimes the emixer shows the light object names like 'light1' 'enviroment' etc. and sometimes is just shows emitter1,2,3,4 etc.

Sorry misterasset. Dont mean to hijack your thread, but just want you to know that Multi-light does seem to work with co-op over network like b-kandor says. I must have done something wrong when I tried it before. It does suck that when you get the file it looses the names of your emitters in ml though. This happens also when I do a single pc render and save out the mxi. Hope they can fix this. Its very confusing to know which light is where sometimes. Now if only HD will work with ml so I can do a print res with ml. I hope that that is not a limitation of ml that it cant be done with hd. Otherwise I just use ml as a low resolution test to set up the print resolution scene with ml disabled. Looking forward to see more shots of this scene :)

Thanks for the info. I'll have to give -ml and network another shot. Maybe it was the fact that one of the machines was just "seeing" the network and the rest were actually "on" the network.

Right now this scene is on hold because I got my first solo paying gig (Whoohoo!!!), but I'll pick it up again when I finish that one up.

Hi misterasset,
I like the first two the day light ones the best. Be nice to see these cleared up more…

I really like how you left the gap under the door, so that its allowing light to come through…very nice touch.

The trim around the door looks odd… Shouldn’t the high side of the trim face the other way...away from the door? I’m working on an interior scene as well that’s using rosette blocks and fluted casing around the doors. I think maybe you should give fluted case a look... might look a lot nicer around that door since your using rosettes (below is a image of the profile for the casing).

Overall nice work, looking forward to seeing more. :)

Kind regards,

I would have thought the same thing, but I just copied the door that's here in my apartment. Perhaps the guys who built the door put the trim on backwards? Who knows.

Anyways... I finished the project and put it over in the gallery.
