this means that you are opening a scene that has an older material (Beta or Alpha) assigned to it. You can ignore this error, and will have to re-apply a new texture using the latest Maxwell Material.

The Early versions of Maxwell had four basic material types available via the Max Plugin (as opposed to the single on in use currently): Diffuse, Plastic, Dielectric, and Emitter.

It's possible that you have both the old and the new dll's loaded in the Max directories. Do a standard Windows search for that file name in your parent max directory. If two show up in your result, delete the older one.

Another possibility is that you may have an older Maxwell material saved as a default mat in your MaxStart file. Try first switching to Mental Ray as your renderer and save your scene as MaxStart. Close Max and re-open - and set it once again to Maxwell - resaving your MaxStart file once again.

Come to think of it, I had this problem when we switched to the MXM materials. My problem was that I had saved an old maxwell material in my 3ds Max Material Library. If I recall, you have to open up the library (first button under the preview boxes - sphere with arrow pointing to it). Click on the Browse From Mtl Library button - find the Maxwell material, select and hit the X delete button at the top of the browser. If I recall correctly, that's what fixed it for me.

Hopefully one of these will work for you.....
