Dear Sirs/Ladys

I am about to start to render my final image in maxwell for the client and i now need to go to high res. (3500x2000)

In my previews i have been using the multilight feature to get the lighting correct, but now i have found that multilight doesn't work in HD mode due to the insanely large files it would make and RAM needed.

So my question is what are the optimal settings for creating high res renders? and

When usuing the multilight system i had to turn up some of the lights to 1000 to get the right level. if i can't use that with high res do i need to increase the wattage of my lights by 100 or something to match that level of brightness.

Right well i hope that is clear, any help would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks
Christiaan

Hi Christiaan,

Q: how long is a poiece of string
A: twice the distance from the middle to either end

I doubt you will be able to use ML at the resolution, but try, and then keep lowering the resolution till maxwell stops crashing. This is the limit that your amount of available ram is putting on your scene. I peaked at about 2000px wide on a 64bit system with 8gig of ram (4 gig limit per app on win64). The MXI file was 3.8 gig.

Who can say, but yes, use this as a guide to re-light your scene without the ML option. Render a small version and see how it looks.

Hey J,

Thanks very much for the tips, i do hope that maxwell will be able to work a way around the fact that you can't use multilight on high res.

Mine seemed to crash when i put it up to 1500, but that was just a pentium D 3.4ghz 2 GIG RAM

The machine i plan to use is my Macbookpro which is considerably faster but not much compared to your 64bit monster.

I think i will just have to whack up my wattage on my lights and do tests,

Thanks again for the help

I haven't had a chance to try this with maxwell yet, but it worked well with a large scanline render that crashed my system rendering at 10,800 X 12,600 (36" x 42" @ 300dpi). raytraced, glass, advanced lighting etc.
Here's the link:

It's realy just a method of manual bucket rendering. Create as many parts as you need and then put it all together in photoshop.

Let me know if it works with the maxwell plugin. Maybe I'll have time to try next week.

Thanks,
Dan

well the problem is that you cannot use region render from max (AFAIK)! plus, the lens distortion and vingetting on maxwell means that it is extremely difficult to merge cameras if you do a part render.

Cheers,

J.
