I've had that a few times but it always seems to be from a scene that was set up for a different renderer.

Could be particles, furr and hair. do you have any dynamic max objects on that scene?

I think from memory it might be from having a displacement modifier from vray applied.

I normally jsut select all and apply a generic maxwell mat and do a UVW remove and it seems to solve it

I had the same warnings but the scene rendered ok.
When I looked for that particular object I found it was a dot which was included somehow in a merged grouped object. :?:
