when I import a dwg model into 3dsmax I used to get each element come through as an element. I have a new machine and 3dsmax installation and now each slab/element is broken up into faces when I try to select by element in 3dsmax.
anyone know what makes this difference when importing a dwg. I desperately need to get it back to selecting by element.
thanks for any help :D

The best way to import DWG-files is via the File Link Manager. Every element remains an object and the best: you can update the linked DWG if changes occur.

Good luck.

I havent had that happen to me, what versions of I am assuming ADT and Max are you using....

I have a new problem though, if you "IMPORT" an ADT 07 model into Max 9 there is a huge file bloat, a 3mb ADT 07 file become a 110mb Max 9 file. Its a pain in the ass

Hello Jeff

I have observed the same: the file-size is near the double in Max 9 in comparison with Max 8 (for linked ADT-models)

This is a real "progress"...and everybody knows how slow Max behaves with scenes of a big file-size. :?

i had this problem a few months ago. if i remember correctly, the problem was that i hadn't checked the point "combine objects by layer" under import options. don't know if it could be the same simple problem in your case...
