Hi,

When I render a scene Maxwell Render runs normally, but sometimes the 3Dmax 8 program crashes.
Do you know what might be causing this?

It doesn't happen all of the time, but every once in a whille... ups, there goes 3Dmax together with my unsaved scene file.

It's really annoying.

Please advise,

regards,
D.

If you could provide a sample scene, we'll be glad to help. Also, on every crash, 3dsmax generates a zip file (dumpdata.zip) in your %temp directory, containing the error report files. That, if you could share, it might help too.

ok,
I'll do that next time it crashes.

Thanks a lot,

I've noticed Max sometimes crashes when I close a render using the little prompt box when the render isnt finished. Normally when I'm doing test renders I just X out rather then let it finish.

Hi,

crashed again.
I can't find the Zip file though... only this one:

3dsmax_minidump.dmp

Is is beacuse I decided not to sent the report to autodesk that it wasn't perhaps created?
Or am I looking in the wrong folder?

The crash report .zip file contains 3dsmax_minidump.dmp, so it's OK. First, please make sure it's the right one by checking its date&time creation. You could send it here: bogdan.coroi@gmail.com

PS. The right time to check for the existence of the .zip file is before closing 3dsmax's crash report dialog.

I did two things:

1- I started to wait untill the render finishes properly before shuting Maxwell down.

2- I followed Bogdan's advice:

("As a speculative conclusion, the crash it might be due to the fact that the rendered image is brought back to 3dsmax's frame buffer (since bmm.dll is involved in this crash). You could eventually give it a try and don't bring back the rendered image. This option is controlled by the "Rendered Frame Window" checkbox, located in Maxwell Renderer Settings/Common Tab/Render Output Group.")

Yesterday I've been doing several short renderings, and 3dmax didn't crash anymore so the problem was probably caused by this.

Thank you all,
D.
