So my materials are obsolete, AGAIN?? Any old projects have invalid mxm files when I render. I guess with the new plugin you cannot specify where the mxm file goes? How do you find it and open it? Why are all my materials "missing material"? How do I remedy? I thought it was automatically translate?? I have searched through some materials with the material editor and I can pick the mxm files but they don't find the maps, AGAIN. Can I reset the path somehow?? LOTS OF QUESTIOM MARKS!!!

Do you get any errors from the plug-in starting with "Old MXM Material Translation Error"?

Where do you see "missing material"?

If the plug-in can't find textures it looks for them in exactly the same way as Max normally does. Therefore, you can add custom search directories (Customize -> Configure User Paths -> External Files) to where you have your textures.

However, if your mxm files and textures worked in the old plug-in (i.e. if Maxwell rendered them) they should work now without changing anything. If they don't, could you please provide us with more details, so we can try to solve the problem?

By the way, did you save the scene after loading it with the new plug-in (without overwriting the old scene, of course)? You should save and re-open after the conversion, this avoids many oddities caused by the translation process.

The current import code has two bugs, as noted earlier by somebody on this forum: the material names are not preserved and it creates one material per object (which is bad if you had one material assigned to many objects). Both these bugs have been fixed we'll release a new build tomorrow morning.

Mihnea - I was mistaken - I was opening a "very" old file RC5. that is why it came in with missing material.

I remedied and opened a v1.0 file and it gave me missing mxm files and told me to copy them to the root directory of the project, which I did. When I re-opened the file there were no files missing and it seemed to open properly but all of my materials seem to be using 1 mxm file. Every material in the material editor is exactly the same?? Also when I go to smooth + highlight in the viewport everything is red??

Please advise.

The red material thing was discussed on the main bug report thread, viewport preview was not implemented in the build we released on Tuesday. We'll be releasing a new build tomorrow that shows correct colors (but not textures yet).

Your materials might look the same if you have many objects because of the bug I mentioned - one new material per object. We've also fixed this, please wait for tomorrow's version before importing old scenes. Still, if you're positive all your materials have been imported from the same mxm file, please gives us more details so we can look into the problem (we couldn't replicate this behaviour here).
