Hi guys,

I would love to give you specific release dates, but I can't! We have made that mistake in the past: announcing a release date and not delivering the product in time. We don't want to make the same mistake.

Therefore, I gave you a very wide timeframe. Basically, the updated plug-in will be out as soon as possible, certainly before the end of the year, possibly (hopefully  )sooner. I'm afraid that's the best I can do..

Thanks,

Nicole

well, to be fair quite a few max's plugins don't work with 9 yet. depending on the specific plugin it may take a bit of time to recompile, and some companies will charge their customers for the update.

*answers sarcasm with sarcasm*
You suddenly can't use Max8 anymore? :P:D

Would love to see this update as much as everyone, but i have to say NONE of my plugins have been updated for max9 yet with the exception of *urp* vray.

yep, a week ago or something like that. only played around a bit though, have some stuff to finish up before we make the switch.

one thing you can't miss, as everybody pointed out, are quite a few improvements in viewport performance and directx.

They've already updated the most important plugin: Greeble :)

Try the new mental ray. Looks like they're trying to make it a Vray killer. I'm going back and trying some of my Maxwell and Vray stuff with it, and, well, I guess I shouldn't say any more since this is Maxwell's forum.

good on ya Tom!
oliver panrok wrote:shit . is "shit" allowed when plugins does not work anymore ? if not than "damned" :!:
well there wouldn't be any point in a new version of Max if it didn't keep up to date with the changes in windows and other software, and if Max is compiled with a newer version of visual studio then all of it's compnenets (and plugins) need to be compiled with the same compiler. It's an operating system limitation that the plugins need to be updated as well and frankly although it's inconvenient for us, imagine how inconvenient it is for the developers!

things whole thread smacks of 'damned if you do and damned it you don't'

can't wait for the new plugin, I'm as impatient as the rest of you but I'm more worried about whether I should drop everything and go 64 bit.

I'm no programmer, but I just can't figure out why everything "must" be recompiled to 64 bits? I mean, I can still run 32 bit programs on XP 64 (although all device drivers have to be 64 bit). And I don't recall any problems with plugins when everything went to 32 bits....

I just don't understand why they couldn't make Max reverse compatible with older plugins....... :?

I am no programmer either but this it what is going on as I understand.

Max's SDK has been changed/fixes/updated (hasn't changed since version 6, hence recompiles of plugs weren't necessary) and with that Visual Studio has also been updated, so I am guessing there are some/quite a few differences.

it's not all being recompiled to 64bits. it's being recompiled with the new visual studio

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Visual_Studio

Imagine trying to fit the exhaust system from a model T ford onto a new Astin Martin and we may be getting somewhere.

And I'm no programmer wither but it makes commen sense to me.

Aside from the Max 9 issue - when are they going to release a stable & reliable version of the Max 8 plugin ? Will the plugin for Max 9 be equally buggy as the Max 8 version ? Ive made 5 attempts to use Maxwell in Max 8 - every attempt resulted in random crashes for no good reason.
