Does 1.1 drop support for MAX 6? The plug-in only seems to have 7 and 8 support. This would be super-sucky since I don't really want to upgrade my MAX (not for monetary reasons, but just because upgrading always breaks all my stuff).

Casey,

As far as I remember there wasn't a re-compile for plugins required between max 6 and 7 (or from 7 to 8) so theoretically the plugin should work exactly the same in all three versions.
I haven't tested it though...

and hey, why not upgrade! I've never had real problems going from one version to the next, and an we're handling 20 seats here that are spread across who knows how many machines.

If you compile a plug-in for 6, it will work on 7 and 8, but if you compile it for 7, it will only work on 7 and 8. And so on. Ie., they're backwards-compatible but not forwards-compatible. So I'm assuming that Next Limit switched to compiling it as a 7 plug-in for some reason, so MAX 6 won't load it.

As for upgrading, I tried out the 8 trial version yesterday and it did seem to be able to handle everything OK, no real difficulties, so I'm going to call the reseller today.

Wow - I wonder what's going on then? On mine, if I put in the new maxwell.dlr, it fails to load.

This is incorrect. Max 6, 7, and 8 have been compiled using the same microsoft visual toolkit, and it you compile a plugin using the same toolkit then it will work with any of the three versions.

Do you have a duplicate plugin in another directory??

If you have the plug-in in the max plug-in folder, it should load. Odd. Make sure Configuration Paths (Customize menu) is pointing to the max plug-in folder. It should do so by default. If you have the plug-in in another folder, add it to the Configuration Paths.

No no - I mean it doesn't load as in MAX tries to load maxwell.dlr and says that it can't. It pops up a message box saying that it failed to initialize.

It was in a ZIP file, so I don't see how that's possible (those are checksummed). Unless somebody packed the ZIP with a corrupt DLR.

At what point are the files checksummed? During download? I think a zip file can easily become corrupted upon download, especially for an overworked server. [ETA] Well, I guess if the zip was corrupted on DL, it wouldn't unpack.

Did you previously run V1.0 under Max 6? Try seeing if the V1.0 plug-in will load for you with the V1.1 install.

Yes the V1.0 plug-in runs just fine. In fact, are you positive you are actually running the V1.1 plug-in? For example, you shouldn't see Maxwell Plastic materials or anything like that anymore. If you have anything other than Maxwell MXM materials, then you're still running the V1.0 plug-in too...
