Hang on, hang on wait a minute! Hold it right there!

Wasn't Maxwell 1.0 promised to have lighmap baking (render to texture) capabilities.

This will be one of the primary uses I will be applying Maxwell to our game engine.

Whats up with our light baking?

Cheers.

With all due respect, Denis, thats bullsh*t. Victor already told us that it will ultimately be a feature.

It's another big selling point for Maxwell.
The ability to make game assets in max, assign emmitting materials to the objects themselves and bake the physically accurate light is something you cannot overlook.

With Maxwell's true-to-life lighting simulation it would be shortsighted and a poor marketing desicion not to the allow the renderer light baking functionailty. The outcome is enormous and has huge potential for the games industry.

I work at a games company in Melbourne. Currently working on a next gen PS3 title. Our next game which is has just begun production will make full use of a dynamic / lightmap hybrid technique.
We were planning to use Maxwell for our first game but little was known about whether it would serve us more heartache than practical purpose in the beta days.
We may ultimately give the lighting system a makeover but for now, engine entity based PRT is our best bet for a near photorealistic lighting solution.

Cheers.
