Search in the manual for projectors. Also find all related topics in maxwell render forum (general)

The 3dsMax manual doc that ships with the RC5 package is from July. How do you apply projectors in 3dsMax? Does this mean that simple textures can't be rendered from max and need to go through the studio? It so, what a stupid workflow.

don't be silly Frances < ;

Hey renderweb there are a couple of quirks that I've found!

1/ make sure you're using the new plugin - copy it from /next limit/maxwell/plugins into your 3dsmax plugin directory.
2/ make sure the object has valid texture co-ordinates
3/ make sure the object has a maxwell material,
4/ make sure the material has a texture
5/ remember to click the checkbox to activate the map in the slot.

All of these must be done to get UVW's on the mesh.

something else I've also noticed is that the default render scenes in the Maxwell studio only have one channel applied, so I cannot perview materials that need multiple channels untill I figure out how to generate my own preview file. I tried it (briefly) and had to apply a material (with a bitmap already assigned since otherwise the mapping wouldn't be exported - see above) and in the maxwell preview window it rendered that map LOL.

I would do it through studio. Materials from the plugin are not converted correctly to the new material system, specially plastics. What I'm doing lately is making fast materials in host app and apply them to the objects so I can place the maps correctly; after that export to mxs, open in studio and correct and finish the translated materials without touching projectors. Diffuse, metals and dielectrics are quite well replicated, but plastics need some corrections. Maps are automatically translated to the correct place.

I agree Fernando, I am also doing my materials in Studio, but these are the steps you need to follow to ensure that UVW's are properly exported from 3DStudio. You could use the projectors in Studio but at the moment I prefer Max's texturing tools,.
