Moderators,
since it looks like the majority of users have difficulties with the updated core and the new GUI, please share your approaches about how you achieved the great results we have seen in the comparison site.
How was your workflow and what are we doing wrong ?
Did you use the same software we have in our hands now ?

thanks

seconded... considering how little only works right now you keep asking yourself: How did they achieve that??

It would be good to summarize all our experiences with this rather
immature release and get the moderators to make statements including
a timeline on fixing them. I'm going back to beta for the time being.
I will be embarrassed in front of my employers after promising them stunning results.

keep up the good work!

It seems the beta testers were not having these problems as much. Something must have went wrong the last moments prior to release.

most definetly. I can't say how disappionted I am. This should NOT have been given to customers at this stage. A big step backwards, hopefully
fixed soon...

Let me just say, right off the bat... I'm a beta tester, and though I don't work for NL, I do know these guys well... at the heart of this effort are truly brilliant guys. The kind of smart and dedicated that makes you humble no matter how much game you think you have. They want what we want: a kick-ass app, no questions asked.

But they're also human.

Maxwell in its current incarnation has many, many new components which are insanely powerful... it's the integration of all these parts which is its stumbling block.

At its heart, the core is stable, fast and flexible - and it's not even optimized yet. The materials and material philosophy is solid and it works. Its power is proportional to its complexity, and with that complexity comes a greater need for time to hammer the bugs out.

As we work with the various components individually, we know how they're doing - it's the complete integration that's the wildcard.

It's frustrating, but I know NL's #1 priority is dealing with the bugs. The guys just needed one good night's sleep in a long freakin' time. They're right back at it asap.

You won't hear me defending the timeline, or the communication, but you will hear me defending this platform. The tests you've seen to this point, if you look carefully, show off the core and the materials. That's Maxwell's heart, and the rest of the usability and integration is coming, and coming soon.

Again, I don't speak for NL, I speak only having worked with them, and with this engine... Studio's got a long way to go, and I personally am most interested in the plug-in development. But they're not resting, and neither am I. And neither are the majority of the users, by the look of it: already generating renders and useful posts, tips and experience even now.

Let's also not forget.. this is Maxwell 1.0. Most of us are currently working with engines and on platforms that have years and years of development behind them. Maxwell's 1.0 feature set reads like a 3.0 feature set, and that's something we all benefit from.

At this point, we're taking the most important part of Maxwell, the core stability and power for granted! Think about that. Anyone can hammer out an import bug.. that's a walk in the park by comparison. When you really think about it, the situation could be infinitely worse.

And by the time you stop thinking about it, they'll probably have the import bug fixed anyway...

Stay tuned...

_Mike

ok mike, you are highly optimistic, and on their side too. I understand your statements well. It seems that everyone here stays and spends their time and money because they have faith in maxwell and NL programmers, because we can see its great potential. But you can not defend NL on its customers policy. This policy (or its absence better) is why most people get angry. They feel cheated and dissapointed. And nobody says "sorry guys, that wont happen again".

... you didn't hear me defending it, either ;) I can't even begin to speak about the whos and whys of Next Limit's customer and communication policies. I have no idea, and I don't work for them. Personally, if it was me, I would've put it all out on the table a long time ago. But I say that in a bubble, of course... I'm totally unaware of what else they might be dealing with, and I'm careful not to throw boiling water around without knowing the whole story. Which I don't.

What I DO know is that this engine rocks, and the bugs will get fixed. Period, end of story. I'm willing to deal with the drama to get there... I truly believe Maxwell's worth it. I'm a paying customer, too, so I get it with the frustration already - I'm just looking at the bigger picture...

...which Maxwell renders beautifully.

Let's not blow this out of proportion guys. I'm still keen with the whole
product and hopefully the way it will develop and grow. And it wasn't
anything personal against the team. How could it? I don't know any of
them and I'm sure their struggling right now. I simply stated that they shouldn't have released this... that's all.
This was a very unprofessional approach and I'm sure they knew what
they gave to us. I would have been not more happy but definetly more
lucky without this realease and waiting for a proper one in January or so.

Cheers,

dielectrics in RC clear up muchmuch faster than they did b4 (also coating is possible) so i went back to one of 8etty's old projects of modeling a wideangle lens and capturing with the maxwell camera the projected image in the box..

okay this will not be fast but it'll alow true lens distortions (fisheye) abberations (if you want that :D) but more importantly you can shift and rotate the lens..stay tuned
Whiskey, Man this is so cool :!:

I agree. What an amazing project. But i think it doesn't quite belong here.
Let's try to keep focused and hopefully get answers very soon.

I wish I could be more constructive and optimistic right now.

I have a headache just from reading some of the posts. Obviously the NL team wanted to deliver at the promised time for once, and put out a version which was less functional than before. Things probably went wrong in the late nigh hours. Hopefully the problems really are smaller than this looks now.
I think I am not going to install this version yet, if there will be a fix in some days.
Could some of the moderators find out what is happening at NextLimit? Are they back at work trying to get us a more functional version in the next few days, or will it bee weeks to the next fix? I can wait; I would just like to know… (This would be an excellent time for some communication from NL).
Thanks Mike for your hard work!

To the developement Team

Dissapointing is the natural result of a huge expectation.
The huge expectation was caused by some kind of missundertanding in comunication or misscalculating the necesary development work to finish this software. Moving ahead several times the deadline is a very clear proof. This can be fixed, from now on, just by being realistics in scheddule, results, and workflow.
Now everybody knows it is not possible to finish this tool as fast as the developping team thought, and is being announced in the web site.
Pleasse have a nice sleep, and have a meeting with everybody in Next Limit, to find out which will be the next step ahead. Do not feel discouraged, this will be a great tool, jut that it needs more work.
Sometimes it is better being more pesimists in the plans, to get more optimist reactions.
You planned 100% and got to 60%.
If you would promissed 50% and get 60% everybody would be happy by now. (me included) Just a view from outside.

Not exactly, Adam. If you read the original post you'll see we're asking
for proofs about how all these stunning images on the comparison pages
were created since the studio including the core app is certainly unstable
and disfunctional. Are you happy with this release?
