My tip: Athlon X2 3800+, 2GB RAM, Georce 6600... good performance for low cost...
Well, amd is kicking intel's arse all over the place right now, no doubt about that...AMD processors do tend to run at higher temperatures than intel procs, signifigantly higher, so one needs to be a bit careful in terms of cooling...if for some reason your system overheats, its much more likely that an amd processor will self destruct as compared to intel...luna_simpson wrote:does amd support all the softwares ..?amd is good , everyone is saying but what is bad side of amd , there must be some , isnt it ? how about 64 bit computing ?
How do you figure this aitraaz? If the cooling fans stop on any computer whether they have Intel or AMD in them the chips will fry unless you turn off the machine. Saying that AMD is more likely to overheat is like saying a Ford is more likely than a Chevy to over heat.aitraaz wrote:if for some reason your system overheats, its much more likely that an amd processor will self destruct as compared to intel...
good, go for it.luna_simpson wrote: duel core is good or bad ?
yes.luna_simpson wrote: does it improve performance ?
no, is not the case. maxwell can and will use both cores.luna_simpson wrote: i saw in some thread that the guy complains that one cores renders and another remains idle. what will u say about that ? is that is the case ?
Well maxwell don't use any hardware acceleration yet (if you're into that you could check gelato by nvidia or something similar), so it won't speed up render times...it will give you, however, at lot more power for texturing, viz, etc...artcrimes147 wrote:
and I am looking at graphics cards (any ideas on good ones? is getting a dual graphics-card system that much better?) also, how important is a graphics card in regards to 3D Apps and Maxwell in specific?
.
I'm not aware that X2 processors are MP capable, Opterons are however. And you should rather go with an even number for you memory (2GB/4GB) to keep it running in dual-channel.artcrimes147 wrote: Two Dual-core AMD 3800+X processors

Hardly a point to choose a cpu upon, and i've never seen a low strain device like a fan fail, they run a decade.Well, at least the intel p4's have the stepdown integration, which means as the proc heats up towards critical temperature, the processor slows down, so, in theory, without a heatsink or fan the bugger won't burn out (so it wouldn't fry if the fans break)...AMD for a good deal of time didn't have a thermal sensor on their procs with an autoshutdown, so if critical temperature were met, it was a meltdown. (I've had two catch fire overnight but it was probably a result of my dick craftsmanship). Obviously AMD has worked alot on this, and the new procs do have thermal sensors,
Boards for AMD cpus are just as great as boards for Intel cpus, in terms of memory environment even greater imho if you look at DFI boards.bu me don't know how many motherboards support them...AMD's do still run hotter, think the critical temp is well above 90° as opposed to 80 on intel but dunno...
