1) non square image map
2)multilep shaders on same obect
3)multiple uvmaps on same object
If I dont do these three things then my plastics render with bump just great.
So if thats your biggest concern then I think your set to go with beta!
also ,,its just amazin maxwell with maya suprises me Every freakin day!
and with 1.0 so close, go head and get that Beta price! Also even as alph i used maxwell in some productions, now in beta I have new projects that ive used Only maxwell as my renderer for stills. so Its already paid for itself here!. I cant wait to get the Ok from the top to get more licenses!
this i just rendered, Both the Sphere and rectanlge are texture with a mxPlasticshader. The shader is textured with a square bump map, the objects only have one texture, and only one uvMap, and whala you have yourself a bumpy plastice object.
this image only 11 samples, so still a little noisy, but you get the idea

ohh, once you buy and use maxwell in maya, you'll be thrilled to know that bump values are very versitile, Bump values can be set as high as 1,000 ,so anything ovr bunp valuse of 100 acts almost like a displacment, It is NOt Really displacment, cuz its based on normals, But damn it has some nice depth and detail to it, it think its just beautiful.

hey im also a maya only user, and Ive found that my plastics DO render bumps, so far the reasons that they havn't rendered with Bump for me, arebillspradlin wrote:So my big concerns are right now, is the port to Maya.
