Houdini ?!?!?! plugin as just been released.

What about XSI ?

Can't you tell us something about it ?

Is there more people using Houdini then XSI ?

Is it so much more difficult to get a Plugin to XSI?

XSI 5 is just around the corner....makes more sense to wait for the new sdk than to code for one that will be changed in two months.

I don't think that will change with XSI 5.
If that is the case NL should mention it.

I hope that adding these new plug-ins has not slowed down the process of finishing and debugging older ones. The current release of the Rhino plug-in is not finished -- it lacks features and has a severe bug where it loses materials -- and I hope that development hasn't ended on it. I hope that there is not a strategy of having a large number of plug-ins to advertise, with some of them being left buggy and unsupported.

Just to note, i wrote the houdini plugin for my own purposes, because i loathe every other 3d application i have ever had to use professionally.

i hate maya and would rather gouge my eyes out than tinker with it. so after i put the ice pick down, i said hey if i write my own plugin with houdini dev kit, i can keep my eyes for looking at more excellent maxwell renders.

finally after meeting with victor at siggraph , we determined that it wasnt fair for me to have all the fun, so i agreed to release it.

hence , if you want a plugin for your favorite package, put down the battlefield 2 and pick up the dev kit for that favored package and go on a learning adventure.

why wait???

if anyone beleives that i posted just to brag about my abilities,i appologize. i can assure you, i have no need nor desire to boast' i beleive ego has little place in art, since art imitates life or is it the other way around, policy stands for me.

my reasoning in posting, is the thread that started this. erp would like to use his favorite package, i understand. bathsheba, thomas l, and quite certain there are others, are concerned that all these plugins being released are taking away valuable coding time from maxwell.

hence my post, to assure everyone, that neither victor nor oscar nor whomever at NL was involved directly with the development of the houdini plugin, as houdini was the one surrounded with "?!?!?!?".
It was simply my free time efforts for the past 7 months, and i felt a bit of duty to come to the defense of NL and assure they are not wasting their time for 3d apps not in demand.
i also am not a programmer. i began 10 years ago writing scripts for cshell and prisms, while at ITT. fueled by desire to have houdini working, i undertook a quest armed with little more than a few good friends that are coders, a couple of books and the internet.

i was reluctant to even release the plugin, save to those who specifically desired it, as again i am not a coder and not sure i was ready for the type of flame mails i sent out before i completely understood the process. However, Maxwell quickly became a great new toy for me to play with and Houdini is a complete package with AMAZING new technology. after much encouragment, and as much testing as i can do, i said what the hey

if one believe one can, then one can. if one believes one cannot then one cannot. what one knows or doesnt impacts not the meanifulness or value of that ones life, and therfore should not contribute to ego.

personal philosophy is that if one can grasp what it takes to begin to master this young field, then that one can do whatever their mind is set to.

if i was misinterperted as being arrogant, and after rereading my post a few times from various approaches with inferred intonation, i can see where it is likely to see arrogance, i humbly appologize.

the intonation that should be taken with my prior post is one of "go get em tiger, cuz you can."

cuz i known how many braincells have been wasted here . . . .

as far as battlefield2 goes, all i can say is i am glad i have 2 machines so i can still render . . .

For whatever my voice is worth here i think you done a awesome job programming a plugin yourself on your own sparetime and i'm sure it's a good one too, so keep up the great work and don't stop doing it!

Even tho i'm not a user of Houdini and the plugin you wrote you have my full support in typed form here. hope all goes well with the continued developement of it and the cooperation you have with NL on it too.

perhaps you didnt read past the warning in my post, dont blame you heh, but adehus, you are absolutely correct in mentioning that i can be persuaded what i wrote could totaly be construed as rude and arrogant. in essence was the whole point of my prior novel.


to note video games got me where i am today, and um i gotta have a BF2 fix nightly . . . . if im not codin this plugin or setin up a maxwell render, ima killin on the BF2 or being killed, no disrespect there for sure!
