hello, I am about to render a large size image...

since -hd needs longer times, and could ruin my drive (writing every 3 min. for 2 weeks..), I thought of rendering smaller size images from the same point of view, and then stitching them all together with a program like stitcher from Realviz...

Depending the vignetting , I think it could be possible.... and since it is a big cutway introrior house with loads of objects, I also thought I could have several scenes containing for each render part only the objects that are in view...

but there is a but... I would need to first save all the mxs and then render them one after one....mmmmm... complex I think.. fact is if I render the scene with at each image a different camera view, the motion blur is going to ruin all....

I thought frame 1 (render) frame 2 (new position) frame 3 (position of frame 2 and render), frame 4 (new position) frame 5 (position of frame 4 and render)... and so on... but in this setup I'd like to render only every other frame... is it possible..?

anyway, if you have any ideas..

(+ rendering smaller parts and stitching them together, I can render without the -hd option, and enable mxi in case things turn short...

I thought to enable mb you also have to enable it per object, so if you don't do that, you won't have a mb problem. Why do you want to render every other frame? Just set it up as an animation and render I think....

well... I am in LW, and I don't think it is possible to enable mb per object... it is on or off... and with maxwell we use the LW cam. so we have to enable mb in order to have access to exposure time... this is why I'd like to render every other image, like frame 1 render, frame 2 gets the motion blur (not rendered), and so on.... is iit possible to render everyother frame with Maxwell... like frame 1 - 3 - 5...?

btw, what do you think about stitching to get a large render... :)

I tried to render only every second frame... in LW, I can use the coma like that

1,3,5.... and only these frames will render... but it does not work with Maxwell.. (I tried)

now let's say I render with mxi (w) and it starts to render frames 1 to 5 (all)... later if I delete everysecond mxi, can it refine only these... or will that stop and crash...

damn... so close yet so far....

would it be possible to save the mxs's I want first, then I'll put them in a folder.....

When you try to stitch images, you probably will run into problems with the heavy vignetting that's in Maxwell!

So be careful and check!

just a question

for release version split render is possible ?

and daros with matador use split render or cooperativemode ?

actually, I find the -hd option doesn't take much longer... in fact in some cases it actually renders faster for larger images 4000pix and bigger. I have 2 gigs of RAM though, I'm sure that threshold would be lower if I had less RAM.

Also, I can't imagine hurting a hard drive by actually using it. The mtbf (mean time between failure) on a modern hd is hundreds of thousands of hours... besides, The amount of time and fuss you are applying to the problem... is it worth the cost of a hd, even if it were to fail? Just make sure any important data is backed up and go for it.

Over here in Canada a decent SATA 200GB drive is $110! which is about $70US. I mean... I'd spend $100 to save myself hours and hours, my time is worth something, and with a paying job $100 is one hour of work... so... one hour for a new drive... or 10 hours messing with stitching (and perhaps never getting it just right). That's the formulae I would consider.

just a thought.

perso I use this technique

if I wants to return a scene of 3000*2000 with a focal distance
of 21mm

I double my focal distance (either 42mm)

I swivel my camera of the half of my horizontal fov and my
vertical fov

in general I keep 2 or 5 degree of security

I export my scene

I repet the operation 4 times (in the opposite direction)

I launch returned of an image of 1500*1000 on 4 different
computer

I stich my images with ptgui

the guiding principle is very simple

it is enough to swivel on the nodal point of its optics

limitation:

- images fixed

- deph of filed is double

- advantages yew you cuts 4 computer you divide your time of
render per 4

yew you cuts two computer you divide by 2

Ian , you are a wise man... I'd follow you on that... you're right.. I'll just back up stuff before...

Maya... interesting... but why fideling... the scene I am going to render took me lot of work, and I just want now Maxwell Magic to operate... hehe... but... very nice trick...

what do U think of PTgui over Realviz Stitcher... I am waiting version 5...

wise eh... thanks... but you should hear my wife.. hehe

I use both realvis and MGI photovista and if I could take a panorama in one shot I would. I haven't ever been able to get a perfect stitch with anything. In most cases it wouldn't be noticed, but for an art render... well, lets just say I'm anxious to see the results.

Again, I'd shoot for all in one shot first.

Herve, what size are you shooting for? When on vacation I rendered a 5800x4000 pixel image without too much problem. Aside from Maxwell's tendancy to quit unexpectedly with large images... but otherwise no ill effect.

looking forward to seeing this mongo-render. :)

i work with ptgui

+ for ptgui

low coast
marker point
no limit for angle lens
correct distotion and perspective

- for ptgui

low quality for blend sky blue
automatique britness and color no very good

a+
