Hi everybody!
I've done a lot of tests with this exceptional software. And I'm very disappointed becouse a can't use clips, procedurals, and the rendering time is huge. I'm architect and time is crucial for me. I use Nemetschek (instant prezentations for clients) and 3dsmax just for magazines, journals, etc.
This is my first project rendered with Maxwell.
1.5 mil. polygons. 1600x728. 40 hours. level 7 (!)

LATER EDIT: LEVEL 17 - 14 HOURS
I'm planing to let this freakin' image to burn 200 hours just for fun. I've got another 5. Yeah. I'll show you later.

I have 512DDR333 and since I don't want to put any money in this god damn junk (2600+,...) I
have a question!

How much dose swaping memory affect the time rendering? (I'm not sure this is grammatical, bleah).

I use 900Mb with 512Mb in this case (almost 400Mb swapshit). Bleah. I want a new machine. (But I'm not satisfied with what I can buy. This is not evolusion!!!).

Maybe your objects and scenes are unnecessary complex and have geometry and shaders in them that isn't even visible in your renderings. Try shaving off some and remove if you have any dielectric shaders somewhere there which isn't visible anyways. And other things which you can composite in later on you can also remove. But this should all be something you know and have done already.

But wait a second now, this scene is 1.5 million polygons ?! umm.. lol where are all those polygons ?? you could do this with 1/10th of that. You seriously need to optimize both models and your workflow for such scenes.

I been pushing 2.64 million polygons on one single Zbrushed model in C4D and with Maxwell today as a test and i have just 512mb ram too and alot slower machine than you do. It didn't take forever.. but sure it swaps alot on the drive but not that it's going crazy slow.

i agree with Maximus, especially for the plants : delete leaves that are not visible, and yes, buy at less 1Go. Performance of you hard disk (i presume you used -hd) is responsible too.

It looks like most of your faces are in your trees, plants, and grass. I'd render these out with regular scan line and composite them in with Photoshop, or try and optimize them at least.

I agree with all above, especially Maxer. If you want another reality you need to conform to that reality, clean up your models and then see what transpires. Your 1.5 mil polys can be trimmed radically and so will render times. Man, NOBODY runs a serious 3D machine with 512 megs of ram...but if you don't want to spend any money on optimizing your present machine, you ought to seriously consider another box...and optimize your models along with your machine.

Heh, i wouldn't say nobody does serious 3d with just 512mb ram. But you do need to adapt your models/shaders/workflow to your hardware or else you never get anything done. There's alot you can do with 512mb if you know how to make use of every little kilobyte ;)

Infact, working on tiny lousy hardware is a bigger artistic and technical challenge than having some fast expensive computer because you need to think about everything you do more than once from many points of view at the same time to find the best possible and most optimal solution.

Wooow, this is great feedback! thanks!
You're right. I have at least 600.000 polygons on grass and 400.000 on trees but you can see just 50%.

I notice a HUGE difference in speed for anything larger then 1500 pixels, and I have 2 GIGS of RAM and brand new hardware.

use the "-hd" parameter

be prepared for almost no visual feedback for a while, so get your exposure correct FIRST, but it seems to me a LOT faster and cleaner then without.

OK. Now I have 630.000 polygons in the same scene (identical image), 675Mb(aprox 160swap). And it gose on level 10 in 1 hour. This time I used 1400x637. Not a big diference.

So it's 58 times faster??!?!??! I don't get it!

I've deleted some glasses obscured by the walls too.
This software calculate all the objects? Even those obscured by walls??? waaahhaaaha! I'm shocked!

nice image!! but maybe try to make a 2 point perspective out of it. the very 'cubistic' shape of the building and the tele-lens effect are really 'screaming' for vertical parallel lines

for details, see one of the most recent posts on this same forum...

cheers
