Some time ago, they copy a render from my friend Jonatan ( keytoon ), and put it with no credits of him in the image, but finally their credits appeared in the image.

By far, I still prefer the original Jonatan with Maxwell:

Best regards.

lol, imho final render is cheap...instead of innovating something new...they steal physical sky and put it as a feature for stage 2...

I seriously doubt their move into physical sky rendering is gonna affect Maxwell at all, i can see it affecting Cebas in a negative way instead as people will see it as they took the idea from you NL guys. It's just too obvious to go unnoticed :) so it'll just be another nice toy for the Final Render fans but not really something that will attract many new customers.

Perhaps it's a strategic move to rescue their dropping sales of Final Render.. that's a possibility ;)

Well, we should all prepare for more of the same from practicaly everyone you can name...physical sky is only the beginning...Maxwell will always be viewed as the first of the next generation renderers. But make no mistake about it, there will be others, just as there were raytracers after the first commercial one was marketed. (BTW, does anyone know who offered the first full raytracer for public sale?) and HDRI and etc, etc.

Lets just get this one up and running right...

Agreed, Jonatan's render looks better. I find it funny that the Cebas render gurus put a picture on the wall to try and distract your eye from the floor... the difference in quality and contrast is immediately obvious when one looks at the floor area.

There's physical sky and then there's physical sky... HDR seems to cover quite a wide range of bit depths... I wonder what Cebas chosen.

Indeed... many new renderers in alpha/beta at the moment... exciting times ahead.

This is very true, Maxwell Render is the first of the elegant render engines. There will be more, but what will separate them apart from one another will be platform integration, inter-platform workflow, and adaptability to platform-to-platform translation and workflow (hint...big studios).

But often it is most important to be the first on the cutting edge as it helps with branding recognition.

We have seen this with the modeling programs. First there was zbrush, then silo, then modo, and now a zillion others. What is starting to separate them is workflow and complete integration "out of" and "with in".

Does not matter now, who comes out with the next and best and latest macro-scripting, topography redefining, super-duper gui design because the three with the branding recognition have won this fight and that is the big ones (Zbrush, Silo, and Modo).

mmmhhh.. it looks like an ironic reference to maxwell.

Anyway, I don't like cebas physical sky, I think it needs something

Check the renderings by Jonatan, they are very similar, but there is something in the maxwell render that is stunning. Definetly, Maxwell is more close to reality. Not even including the amount of time spent in the setup for the Finalrender image.
Finalrender s-2 looks cute, but it's still far from other renderers using similar approaches, like vray , brazil or Mental Ray.

He he, I am pretty proud to say that Lightwave was the first commercial 3D app to support HDRI lighting... but this is an old story, and now Newtek is by far the last in terms of rendering power, so we should all learn from that....

Hey Ron; the "... make no mistake about it, ....... " is a Bush's fav.... he he...

Yeah LW had a pretty amazing renderer at the time, and they were always the first to innovate. Very curious to see what the Luxology guys are going to show at Siggraph.

Btw, why would anyone want to use finalrender when you have Mentalray, Vray, Brazil? They seem more capable, flexible and better quality....I guess much of finalrenders success is because of the C4D users. But when Vray goes standalone I think Cebas will be in big trouble.

OFF Topic ahead...

Mihai, I am leaving in about 2 hours to Montpellier for the inscription at the UFR of Sciences for my son... I'll be there only one day, so I cannot come to visit you, but I'll return early September to fix everything in his little studio appartment.. so maybe if you have time we'll have a drink (or two)

END of the OFF Topic...
