..we are developing more and much realistic materials,
among them there will be paint cars.
We are working on new materials, the material editor and some other related features for 1.0. It's our main priority.
13 dec 2004
..Glow and glare effects will be avalaible in some months.
This is not a priority now and as can be easily postprocessed
14 dec 2004
..in the Maxwell stand alone interface, there will be a tool for editing MXI.
Done, you can create MXI and edit their properties
24 dec 2004
..There are plans to develop a very fast preview global illumination mode (in the stand alone aplication ). Maybe at near interactive frame rates.
These plans are alive, we have this engine ready, but will be probably added in a 1.x version
25 dec 2004
..we already work with other RS(X) engines, one of them is a fast preview.
Read above
30 dec 2004
..in a few months there will be a very realistic rendering of particles.
Done, will be ready for 1.0 release
14 jan 2005
..in development there is MXI light textures. Like environment mapping, but can be applied to any object. Likely with HDR compatibility.
Done
23 jan 2005
IES light : There are plans to support all this, and more.
Working on this, we will try to add support for 1.0
24 jan 2005
..Speed is one of our main targets, but is one of the most difficult too because of the physical realism and accuracy. Is just a matter of time to see how maxwell improves a lot in speed and in new features.
Performance has been improved and it is a constant background task for the development team
24 jan 2005
..About semi-transparency, in the version of February there would be opacity maps and in next version, subsurface scattering too.
Clipmaps and SSS are available. There are still some issues with clipmaps. Opacity has serious conflicts with physical materials that we have to work out
27 jan 2005
..displacement is very important, and it will be avalaible in a few months.
We are working on this, we will try to support it as soon as possible
28 jan 2005
MXI image format is much much more than 16 bit depth. MXI will be avalaible soon.
Done
07 feb 2005
We'll show where is the north and the sun located.
Will be added to the GUI
08 feb 2005
Maxwell will handle procedural texture and geometry, but these features will only be avalaible with the stand alone interface
The idea is that users can write their own shaders ( through code or through some visual tools we'll develop ) and their own geometry
These plans are alive, the GUI will be growing according to these ideas
18 feb 2005
..there are plans to make realistic water shader.
Particle rendering is almost ready, a dielectric material works nice but we will investigate an exact water material
26 feb 2005
There is a very important developing and investigation in a very very very much more realistic sky. That yes, it will have physically based 24 hours sky simulation, and atmospheric effects.
A much more realistic physical sky is being developed. It will be probably a post-release 1.x feature if we don't reach 1.0
01 mar 2005
Displacement will be avalaible in the next release after this one.
See the displacement comment above
02 apr 2005
We are preparing an educational option, it is still not available, we will provide more information soon
Done
14 mar 2005
Maxwell is a standalone application that connects to the 3D applications through export plug-ins. Maxwell will provide its own graphical interface in the future, plus new import capabilities. Many features will be available as an independent rendering tool.
The GUI is available and will be growing according to this
16 mar 2005
At the moment there is no support for clipmap in plastics, dielectrics or emitters.
We have to fix that
08 apr 2005
We'll make strong improvements in memory management so that it will be possible to render at any resolution
Available through the -harddisk option
11 apr 2005
Voxelization will be multithreated in a few months.
To be done, trying to match release 1.0
15 apr 2005
All optimizations will be done in an unbiased way
Always true
23 Apr 2005
At the moment there is no support for tif/tiff. As soon as possible we'll add it, and other formats
Available
05 May 2005
We will let the people alter the geometry while keeping the rendering environment alive. We want to avoid 'non return' stages.
It's part of the GUI plans.
We hope you understand that this is not exact science. We will be happy to tell about our progress as long as we are not pursued or threatened of legal actions each time that something diverges.
