I've got a dual processor system and I'm running the Beta version of Maxwell. I thought I would take a look at the system performance while I was waiting and to my suprise Maxwell is only using 50% of my total processing power at sample level 9. When I got to sample level 11 it went up to 100%, this seems very strange to me shouldent it be using 100% all the time? :?

On OS X it's a 100% all the time... at least if you select to use 2 threads.

Ok for what ever reason it seems to use 100% of the processor through about 2/3 of a sample level and once it gets to that point it goes down to 50% until the next sample level starts. My Num of Threads is set to 2.

its all about quality, the earlier samples do not need 100% power to calculate because they are intial lower quality stages, the further along in your samples the nice the image the more constant processing strain on your chips so they go full boar all the time. Hope this rambling mess makes any sense. 100% in the early samples is not really a benefit time wise.

What do you consider early sampling because I'm at sample level 12 right now and it's still doing the same thing, and I don't think it's updating the render window for 10 minutes.

on my dual xeon it goes 100% full time, it only slows down to 25%_50% for a minute when updating from a sample level to another. i always use as many threads as possible (at least 8 ).

The patch 1.2.1 has been released.

It has optimized for Multithreading systems.
For performance, I recommend to use as threads as number of CPU's in your system. No more no less. It is detected by Maxwell using -th:0 or -threads:0 option in command line.
