HI, this is my first message here and I have a doubt ... could be possible to process the depth of field as an image filter in the preview window? similar to the photoshop´s lens blur? cause I notice that in the blurry areas with maxwell it take much more time, and also could be interest to adjust the depth of field in the final processed image, so you don´t need to try different renders to adjust the DOF, so what do you think? is it possible?

Incredible ... no replais...? no ideas ...?

Rather incredible coz you obviously did not read the basic info about Maxwell....

DOF blur doesn't cost additional time and is part of the Maxwell render core. It's not an option, it's at the renderer's heart.

If you really prefer to have your on Postpro Blur for reasons that are completely beyond me, then render with a very small f-stop and use the Z-channel to apply your blur.

Hope it helps

he means small aperture, in practical terms, use a big f-stop number, like 16. This together with a small focal length 20mm - 50mm will give you almost no dof effect at all.

yes, but that is not the point, the thing is I would love to have an option as
the preview windows (Film ISO, Burn, Gamma, etc...) but with DOF so, meantime we´re render we could change the DOF in seconds if it´s post-processed , do you know what I mean?

I get your point... Nice idea.

Yes.. there are so many reasons why being able to render the DOF as a separate grayscale pass are useful in post.

You're setting up DOF naturally as a part of working with the Maxwell Camera... it'd just be an option to actually incorporate the DOF effects as part of the render, or to output the DOF information as a grayscale pass separately (or both, perhaps).

Thanks for the link, Thomas.. but it'd be important for the renderpass-generated DOF to precisely match the in-render one that Maxwell is already calculating.

I already have several options for generating DOF, I just want to be able to generate it from inside Maxwell, since that's the camera I'm shooting with. In an animation, especially, with a moving focal point, it's crucial to have the DOF generated by the animation camera.

Sure you could do that, but to separate Maxwells dof into a separate pass, I don't think that's possible.
