This is both a Escher tribute and a way to appreciate the astounding lightning quality of Maxwell, without any needs of sophisticated materials...

wow, neat ! Did you get dizzy while making it ?

Looks just as physically accurate as the current world affairs.

No, there are no relations between Arnold and Maxwell. Marcos Fajardo (Arnold creator, Spanish) is a good friend of us. Maxwell is a totally different technology that uses a different approach and concepts to simulate GI.

Yes, we are all spanish, land of genius 8)

yep in fact is that model, and I also saw it rendered with Final Render, but I was trying to compare with Maxwell quality, and I'm totally happy with it!

yes tom, the model IS real! till yesterday we all were thinking about Escher graphics miracles, but many of them can be (not easily) modeled: http://www.cs.technion.ac.il/~gershon/EscherForReal/

Thanks for the Escher image. Actually some of those images would appear if Maxwell had some bug in normal interpolation :)

oh, oh now I know.....Its the inside of a space station   (zero gravity environment). The trees must have been trasnported with the space shuttle recently (I don't know if they will grow for 8 years under zero gravity, I guess as long as the light comes from overhead they will grow straight towards the light)

J-Petrucci, great render, yes light is great with maxwell.

Where can a get the Escher model in 3ds or obj???

Thanks.

Its not just the zero gravity... If you guys where to place some of the trees, or the people as seen on Eschers drawing you would come up with some crazy shadows.

Escher also played with light, not only geometry

just thinking about this: differently from other Escher works, "Relativity" geometry IS possible, just because there are no geometrical incongruences and also the perspective is coerent; the smart trick introduced by the marvelous dutch artist is the placement of figures that make us view the same geometry from different "semantical" point of view (table and chairs, stairs going up and down, ...).

isn't this coming from a genius?

this real miniature clearly demonstrate that this model can be actually built:
